When are journalists goint to start hammering McCain

about Romney's tax returns? He, or someone on his staff (who, in turn would have reported back to him), have seen what, 12 year's worth? After which, he chose Palin as his running mate??

He's being suspiciously quiet, don't you think? He hasn't defended Romney - probably because he can't. So, unless he's willing to lie about it, he'd have to go into hiding (if he hasn't already) to avoid answering questions about what HE knows is in the returns.

IMHO, instead of listening to the likes of Graham and Priebus, Journalists need to be pounding McCain's door down.

including maybe amnesty?

"McCain also reiterated his real message: There's nothing in Romney's tax returns that would disqualify him as a candidate, and McCain will "personally vouch" for that."

Being disqualified as a candidate and being a terrible candidate are two different things. If he found a legal way to not pay taxes for 10 years no one has ever said he would be disqualified to run, it would just make him unfit to run.

I think McCain hated him and he just showed up pandering for the job. For Christ's sake they sure as hell did not vet the bimbo. I think their only concern was trying to save his sorry ass because he had nuttin' going for him.

Just because romney gave them all those tax returns doesn't mean they looked at them.

During the primaries in 2008, McCain and Romney were each others throats, and there is no way in hell someone like McCain would pick a wimp like Romney as his VP. Did Romney show the McCain team his taxes? Who really knows, but even if he did I really doubt anyone took the time to look through them since they had no plans at all of making him the VP pick.

I think that Harry Reids "source" is a fellow Mormon who invested in Bain, and Romney most likely told him how he could avoid paying taxes just like Romney was doing. With the ego Romney has I would not doubt one bit that he bragged about how he wasn't paying taxes, or how he hid his money from the IRS. I really do believe someone did tell this story to Reid, I don't think he is lying about it. Somebody for some reason has come forward to Reid about this, and I think the problem is Romney told a lot of his "99%" investors how to avoid taxes, so he isn't really sure who it is that has come forward. All he can do is deny the charges, but he won't ever show his taxes.

would have been among the same collection of rocket scientists who "vetted" Sarah Palin, so who knows what they missed? Mittens could have written "FUCK YOU, IRS!" in red Sharpie marker across the last page of his 1040, and written "$0,000,000.00, neener, neener" on the line for tax owed, and that bunch probably wouldn't have noticed.

Anyhow, even if they hadn't been Palin-vetting morons, I'm sure they would have been looking for obvious discrepancies (like blatant conflicts of interest or investments in corporations or entities that would be controversial for the campaign). If Mittens legally managed to pay little or no federal tax (which could have happened by,e.g., carrying losses over from one year to the next), that probably would not have raised red flags or raised any eyebrows (remember, this was before the crash of '08). McCain is also very wealthy and would have taken advantage of many of the same tax planning methods as Mittens. So whatever was in those returns wouldn't have been a big deal for McCain, assuming he'd actually seen them at all (which is unlikely).
