(31,261 posts)Why give republicans fuel with your choice of terminology? They love the use of the term Pro Abortion by the left. It is unfortunate that some on our side insist upon falling into their trap.

I'm 65, never had kids of my own, but I remember when I was a preteen and father had to tell his best friend that he'd just taken best-friend's daughter to the hospital for complications of a botched back-alley abortion.
No woman should ever have to resort to one of these butchers ever again.
As a middle-aged (-to-old) man, my opinion is that abortion should be safe, legal, and none of my goddamn business.

(31,261 posts)We need to use language better. There have been several recent cases
Abolish ICE? What the hell does that mean? Reform ICE is much more descriptive.
Abolish Profit? Really? That's a sure loser at the polls, except in a few places.

(12,629 posts)by running away and hiding every time the republicans say boo. Weve been letting the other party frame the abortion debate since the 90s. Weve conceded that there is something wrong with abortions. We need to stop doing that.

(31,261 posts)It is pro choice
We want women to chose what happens to their body
We want women to have access to birth control and abortion if they chose that route
We CHOSE to feed and care for children after they are born and not just in the womb
We chose to educate children and limit their exposure to gun violence
We chose to provide safe food and water to children
Every single thing we chose to do, republicans are failing on, we need to attack them on principles and stop tripping ourselves up with self limiting terminology.

(8,311 posts)It's like saying you're pro-death penalty, which is different from "I support a convicted person's right to choose death over life in prison in 23 hour solitary confinement". If I held the attitude that a person in such a circumstance could even be making that call of their own free will, it'd still not going to get me on a jury in a capital case. I'd have to convince a judge I thought I had the right to choose life or death for another adult human being just because they committed a crime. I don't, let alone the right to tell them what to do with a fetus inside them.
I'm pro-choice. Women should not be coerced into aborting OR carrying, but supported by society 100% in whatever decision they make for that pregnancy.
And we as a society do a piss-poor job of supporting the woman through *either* decision because politics is so focused on what their decision should or should not be. Pregnant women shouldn't be having to get preached at and called a slut to get diapers for the baby they wanted to keep after unintentionally getting pregnant, which is the situation many find themselves in for exercising their choice. And yeah, they're getting called names, but it's worth it to them to get the diapers.
But it shouldn't be that way.

(36,739 posts)Abortion is just one of the many routes that should be available to achieve that goal.
I am 100 pct behind any woman who chooses it to end an undesired pregnancy for any reason she deems necessary.

(18,745 posts)I am for safe, legal, and available abortions. I'd also like them to be fully funded. So I am pro abortion too, if all of these conditions were met many more abortions would occur.
Young mothers should be able to absolutely choose when and when not they carry a fetus to term.

(4,877 posts)Well, one of those, anyway.
Using numbers they wanted to see what brought crime numbers down.
They looked at 3 strikes, they looked at the addition of cops.
They found out that unwanted childern, that the mothers couldn't afford to raise were the cause of large uptick in crime.
Conclusion? Roe v Wade brought crime down....BOOM!
I highly recommend watching-reading the study.
