Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI just found out that my best friend and roommate, a well known Sikh from Punjab,
was a good friend of Satwant Singh Kaleka, the religious leader who tried to stop the murderous asshole and was killed at the entrance to the temple.
The reason I didn't know this before is that my friend has been in the San Jose Gurdwara getting news and calling India to relay information and talking with friends and relatives of Satwant.
My friend will be leaving for Wisconsin tomorrow morning.
He also knows the agricultural minister for Punjab, who was to be at that temple in Wisconsin but had been running late... had the minister been there when the attack happened...
First time that I know someone that knows someone who was killed in a mass shooting. Unfortunately for me not the first time that I knew someone that was killed by gunfire. One of my best friends in college was also murdered because (most likely) he was homosexual, though police never found the murderer or the motive.

(5,946 posts)It is such a shame this horror happened. I honestly don't know what is wrong with people who want guns in the hands of everyone.
