Are you thinking about the song "Eve of Destruction" right now?

This song was written in 1965, so some lines are dated, but think about some of the lyrics like: "Violence flarin’, bullets loadin’"; "You don’t believe in war, but what’s that gun you’re totin’" in the wake of the Colorado and Wisconsin mass murders this summer. Then in terms of politics and our humanity the whole third verse:

Yeah, my blood’s so mad feels like coagulatin’
I’m sitting here just contemplatin’
I can’t twist the truth, it knows no regulation.
Handful of senators don’t pass legislation
And marches alone can’t bring integration
When human respect is disintegratin’
This whole crazy world is just too frustratin’

He's milked the song for all it's worth and in the process lost all the anger the original had. Jeez Louise, if I didn't know better, I'd say he wrote that version for summer bible camp.

The version I was referring to was on a PBS Folk song special hosted by the Smothers Brothers. Barry delivered the same song we remembered from the sixties, with all the intensity, anger, and passion, only he slipped in a FEW lines that were contemporary.

And yeah, the words from then fit Today, likely better than Then.

So much hatred, so much self righteousness and arrogance. It doesn't matter if its hatred here, or hatred abroad, WAR of any kind is not healthy for children and other living things.

The harder the times get, or appear to be going to get, the less kindness seems to exist on the wider horizons. As if any of us know how much we really need to endure and survive.
What are the goals of America? Does what happened a year later matter to what was said originally? Do we grow or do we stagnate? Do we close down and build walls instead of bridges?

alp227, your post hit lit a ton of bricks. And its not even October before this next election.

Oh please Democrats don't do it again, please don't splinter with each piece going off in its own direction. THIS time this Nation needs all of us to be united, but then it was Will Rogers who said it so perfectly, he didn't belong to an organized political party, he was a Democrat.
