Mitt Romney mistakenly confused the words Sikh and sheik at a fundraiser here Tuesday night when he offered his condolences to the victims of last weekends shooting at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin. [...] Sheik is an Arabic honorific, whereas Sikh is a religion with roots in South Asia.
That might be worth a guffaw or two, but things got really uproarious when Romney's in-house comedian Rick "Kiss my ass, this is a Holy site" Gorka defended his boss:
Reporters questioned Romney spokesman Rick Gorka about the mistake after the event. He said Romney simply misspoke.
It was the end of the day, Gorka said. He mispronounced similar sounding words. He was clearly referring to the tragedy in Wisconsin. You clearly heard him talk about it earlier today in Chicago.

(25,699 posts)Sometimes people mush words up. Remember how Obama visited all fifty-seven states? It could happen to anyone.
With that in mind, the Romney campaign should capitalize on this; it's his first and only moment of being relatable.
Yeah, he flubbed it, it could happen to anyone... especially someone who's seeing their chances at a continued political or financial career go up in flames like the fucking Hindenburg. He's jut a mite frazzled, y'think?

(18,480 posts)Sundowning is a psychological phenomenon associated with increased confusion and restlessness in patients with some form of dementia. Most commonly associated with Alzheimer's disease, but also found in those with mixed dementia, the term "sundowning" was coined due to the timing of the patient's confusion. For patients with sundowning syndrome, a multitude of behavioral problems begin to occur in the evening or while the sun is setting.[1][2] [3] Sundowning seems to occur more frequently during the middle stages of Alzheimer's disease and mixed dementia. Patients are generally able to understand that this behavioral pattern is abnormal. Sundowning seems to subside with the progression of a patient's dementia.[1][2] Research shows that 2045% of Alzheimer's patients will experience some sort of sundowning confusion.[1]

(14,524 posts).. that Mittwitt is an out of touch jerk, and unrepentant elitist asshole, but jumping all over a gaffe such as this, like it's a big deal, comes off as kind of petty to me.
It makes me think of the "57 states" meme the Teapublican wingnuts still try to use against our Prez.

(33,688 posts)white-hot suns, but I am gonna give him a pass on this one. I've made mistakes with similar sounding words quite frequently. There are plenty of good reasons to despise him and this isn't one.

(20,805 posts)Not the smartest thing to admit that when your candidate gets tired he gets easily confused about some pretty basic stuff...
