Has your cable/satellite/DSL provider amped up the Emergency Alert System testing?

We didn't have any here for years. Almost like they had completely done away with the system. Now we get at least one a day. Sometimes more than one a day. We have Mediacom cable here.

Anyone else?

Don

It's probably because of the failed nationwide test a month or two back. TheWraith Jan 2012 #1

They had been doing that in the DFW area of Texas for a while. Jazzgirl Jan 2012 #4

They tried to test the system nationally for the first time, and it failed completely. They're now probably going through it region by region to try and unfuck it.

and it did not go smoothly. The tests are ordered from the FCC and States, the providers do them when they are told to do them, they do not 'amp up' nor down. They fill their requirements at the time they are told to do so.

It's really irritating. It's "required" to send out it's irritating sound at least once a month. Also, if a storm comes through (not necessarily a tornado) they use it.....continuously. It is almost ridiculous.

The thing comes up saying "Required Weekly Test", but then i've seen it happen more than once per week.

Not too long ago, (maybe 3 weeks?) it went off 3 times in an hour. That i chalk up to a computer error, but we're definitely seeing "weekly" tests 2 or 3 times per week.

BTW: Comcast is our provider.

Edited to say Happy New Year to Don.
