Mitt Romneys not just treading water, hes underwater when it comes to personal favorability as the clock ticks down to Election Day.
According to the results of a new ABC News-Washington Post poll out this morning, 40 percent of Americans view Romney favorably while 49 percent unfavorably. That means Romney has been underwater in 10 consecutive polls this year. http://abcn.ws/OL7X4x
Whats more, while the the presumptive Republican nominees favorables have ticked up by 7 percentage points this year, his unfavorable score is up more than double that 18 points.
Mitt Romney is laboring under the lowest personal popularity ratings for a presumptive presidential nominee in midsummer election-year polls back to 1984, according to ABC News Pollster Gary Langer.

(22,057 posts)People have formed an impression of Mittington and it isn't a good one. First impressions in politics are not impossible to change but he has very little time left. All the money in the world can't make people like you-at least I hope it can't.

(22,057 posts)During the primary season after one of the hilarious Republican "debates" Stewart referred to "Willard Mittington Romney" and thats been my pet name for him ever since. Its just somehow appropriate-for one born with a silver foot in his mouth (to steal a phrase from Anne Richards referring to George Bush senior in 1992)

(18,115 posts)They can go the other way, but people are unfavorable only when they know you. SOme favorables are people who know the candidate and some who don't.
If people don't like you, you can't change that. No policy or speech can change that, really.

(7,402 posts)Romney had a long pause before unloading the shopping cart where he seemed confused, like George H. W. Bush was with the optical scanner. It was a "let's see, which bag do I grab first and where do I put it" moment. Oh, and his "hardware stuff" included a 12-pack of Pepsi -- the Republican soda of choice -- no accident there, I'm sure.

Hmm, on the other hand, I fully support more "creepy Romney" photo ops.

(10,893 posts)I was hoping that R0bme wouldn't get the nomination as I saw him as the biggest threat, and that someone like Herman Cain or Ron Paul would win instead. But he's doing so badly now that I'm starting to wonder if any of the other GOPhers who ran this year would've fared better right about now, even though the others were even more extreme than he is. He's been having trouble stirring up enthusiasm from his base, he is gaffe-prone, he lacks a clear vision of how he'll improve the country, and his unfavorable numbers are on the rise.

(12,233 posts)most days because she's running a small business and it literally takes a lot of man hours to get things done... Anyway, they had a blurb on the local news about Romney, convention, and who's the big running mate? So, she asked what the deal with this guy was...
So, I told her about the $12 million dollar home he paid cash for and then had an appraiser de-value it so he could pay less property tax, that he's the only candidate who's ever run for office while also owning foreign bank accounts in shady banking places, and he also parks a lot of items in his wife's name and kids trust fund (also he's seems to be the only person in America with a $100 million dollar IRA - which most Americans can only put up to $30,000 in the bank, I told her about his company Bain Capital (which seemed to be the first in the nation of offshoring jobs and buying companies on the cheap, taking all the profit out of them, and often bankrupting the company which literally devastated towns who operated from the local steal plant of some sort), and that his religion is more like a cult... His great grandfather left the USA for Mexico so his family could continue to practice polygamy; his own father was born in Mexico. So, she chimed in, he's Mexican and they try to make a big deal and say Obama was born in Kenya. (she's an "indian" from Guyana-- so she's an immigrant herself and her darker skin and accent causes prejudiced people to spout their BS all the time at her).
Anyway, she decided on just the few things I could say off the top of my head that he was wrong for America. She said he sounds like and "anchor baby" and laughed...

(20,590 posts)Hopefully, since rMoney has alot to lose by getting sent to jail, and no big political dynasty to back him and cover his tracks, his people won't fool with the ballots too much and we'll all get to laugh at him for 4 more years.
He'll be back in 4 to run again, I'm sure, so, we'll all get another good crack at him.

(24,411 posts)Does anyone know why the Reps ran this loser?? He spent his life creating unemployment and profiting from outsourcing. You're really going to run a candidate with that resume' during a recession?
Mitt is filthy rich--Mr car elevator, with multiple homes, Cayman and Swiss bank accounts and a dancing horse. Totally unrelatable.
They knew before Mitt ran that he couldn't release his tax returns. Just how did they think they could avoid doing so? Why run a man so dishonest that his taxes must be hidden???
Compare Mitt to Newt, Bachman and Santorum. Romney is so horrific and inept during interviews that not only is he unable to do Sunday talk shows, they only trod him out for interviews when it's a PR crisis! He is a horrible communicator and he can't even express his beliefs or policy stances without sounding like an idiot.
Not only has he flip flopped--video exists of him confirming that global warming exists and is man made. He's against Obamacare but he implemented The same plan in his state!
Romney is a disaster on multiple levels. I don't get why the party allowed him to be their guy.
There's no way to make Romney relatable to average voters. Rolling a shopping cart toward your limo and your awaiting driver is not it!!

(1,033 posts)It's not over by a long shot, but it shows just how successful the Obama campaign has been in framing Romney as the out-of-touch plutocrat that he is. That was vitally important this year. We had to define him before he and his super PAC buddies define him. It appears we've been successful with that. Can't give up now, though. There's a long way to go, and you can bet Rove, the Kochs, Adelson, etc. won't give up.
