him by 2016. The democrat party will take over both houses with a big majority and the white house. People by then will surely have had enough. Let's see if the tea party people win the senate seats and they do what the tea party people did in the house this country will be in deeper trouble. I dare to think this will be the final blow to the tea party (I pray if there is a god). When the word "compromise" becomes a dirty word this country is in serious deep trouble.

But the adjective form of Democrat is Democratic while the adjective form of Republican is Republican.

We all make typos. To use Democrat as an adjective is a grammar error (which we all also make from time to time and to which I am particularly prone when I type fast), but this is the "Democratic" Underground, so if people are here, they should know that the adjective to use is "Democratic." Just remember, "Democratic" Underground.

Otherwise, people here will think you don't know what website you are on.

remember what you called it back then. But you know a noun, verb and so on. I tried so hard to get it. I could understand a noun and a verb but I just had such a hard time with it all the rest. I even tried to get a friend who was good at it to help me. I had such a hard time. So please excuse me when I don't use the correct form. It's not something that comes easy to me. I try but sometimes I just can't get it. So from now on I will use DEM to mean either way to spell it. That way I won't come off so dumb. I wasn't an A student in school. I liked english and I really didn't like reading until I hit the 11th grade. Funny thing it was an English teacher that got me to like reading, especially bio's. That was the only thing I liked in school besides Home Eco. I liked cooking. I hated PE because we had this damn retired WAC that would ride her damn bike out to the field and tell us we better beat her to the field. Gosh I couldn't stand her.

As a long time English teacher, I completely understand diagramming and feel that it can be the key to beautifully clear writing. My best teaching accomplishment was that about 50% of my students did "get it." The other 50% struggled in vain. I sympathized completely because I, myself, am COMPLETELY brain dead in all but the simplest math.

Although, one has to wonder how long can a country survive where the masses are impoverished. Some have gone on a long time that way. Hopefully, this will not be the fate for America.

Although, watching the primary results in Kansas, they seem to love their teabaggers. The entire state will be run by a teabagger majority, probably, after the 2012 election ... senate, house and governor.

United Kingdom had been at war with Nazi-Germany two years when US decided to get into the fry - after them self was attached by the Japaneses at Pearl Harbor in 1941. And it is a fact, that the UK government by 1941, was the only nation who was really fighting the germans - USSR had been more or less overrun by the summer of 1941, with most of the european parts of Russia occupied and devastated by the war.. United Kingdom was on their knees under the attack from Luftwaffe and the U-Boat service, who hit ships sailing to UK as they wanted.. The United States was not willing - or able to go into the war in 1939, or 1940, it took Pearl Harbor for the United States to really understand that they could not just hide their heads in the sand, and take the hard currency the UK had, to buy hardware and food for the sivilians... In fact, the US congress, right up to Pearl Harbor, was not interesting in helping UK to much - but was happy getting their hard currency, even thought they did know, 50 percent of the hardware necessary to fight a modern war, mostly would end up on the ocean floor before it could reach UK... FDR had, at least tried to make a case for more direct involvement in the war in Europe, but had a hard time convincing the Congress and the Senate it was a smart move to give UK the necessary credits - and to get more involved.. The fear of meddle into a war in Europe was great in the US, and the isolationist was powerfully, right up to December 7th 1941.. The next day, no one called them self isolationist anymore.. And by the end of world war two, US emerged as the most powerfully nation on the face of the planet - as most of Europe was devastated, and the cold war, with all its stupidity more or less divided Europe in two - for more than 40 year.. one of the reasons the US was emerging as the only, most powerfully nation in the world, was maybe because of the fact, that most of the rest was devastated, and it would take them years and years to just get up to prewar level... But we was given the Marshall help plan, who made the possibility for Europe to rebound in less than 15 years time (or at least, west-europe as the eastern part, was dominated by USSR, and was not allowed to loan from the founds made possible by the Marshall plan )

inform the brave Soviet defenders of Stalingrad of that fact

I said ALMOST overrun by the late summer of 1941.. I doesn't say all of Soviet Union... And by the time Stalingrad was engulfed by the war - Leningrad, the other great Soviet City had been under siege a couple of mounts - and would be it for more than 3 years... At the loss of one million inhabitans... It was not before the spring of 1943 the siege of Leningrad was partly lifted, and weapons, food and civilians could travel out and in to the city..

My point is, that most americans look at the attack of Pearl Harbor in 1941, as the beginning of the war - it wasn't, the mess started already in 1939, when Hitler decided it was a smart move to attack Poland... A attack he more or less had been talking about since 1923.. But it is true that the war, ended the depression in the US, and also made it possible for the US to build up an base for a powerhouse in the economy after world war two was over... Even though, it was a dip right after the war, who threatened to make a depression a reality again.. But the "gifts and loans to Europe, guarantied that the US would be the economical and industrial powerhouse it was.... For at least 40 year or so..

True, the good Mark Twain was often a sharp man, who had the vid of an expert.. And sadly to say, most americans have not a clue about either history or geography of other parts of the world... When I was in the US, many years ago, a old, nice woman, ask me, with deadly seriously, if we had the same problems with the vikings, as they had with their Negro's (she really did say that)... I was somewhat flabbergasted by it, but I managed to say that "No, our vikings are for the most part nice this days - my father was a Viking when he was younger, but he sharped up somehow over the years".. The old nice woman got close to a heart attack about that Revelations Sometimes it is fun to be just 15 and had a little bad stroke into life

Both General Giap of Vietnam and Marshall Zhukov of USSR was men who had brains and also smart enough to use it.. But both of them was also ruthless, and used soldiers as cannon fodder.. Marshall Zhukov is maybe most infamous for that - but he was also very respected both by his soldiers, and by the german enemies who know when Zhukov got into a theater, all hell was out..

It is told, that Stalin, after V day in 1945, wanted to trow Zhukov, and many of his officers to the lions, as part of making sure that no one from the generals could challenge Stalin from his power base.. But he could not dear to touch Zhukov, because he was to popular by the russian public.. Even when he was kind of demoted to the far east, where he was to keep and eye om the Nationalistic China, and after 1949, also for Communist China he was one of the most popular generals, and Marshall's of the Great Patriotic War as the second world war is called in Russia... And to his death Genaji Zhukov was one of the most popular public persons in the whole of Soviet Union. And also respected by the west for the effort he had being playing, to make sure Nazi-Germany was not to win the war..

My foster father, who had been in the USSR a year from 1944-45, as part of a liaison duty between the russian forces who was in Norway from 1944 to early 1945, to trow out the germans who was occupying that part of Norway (Finmark and Nord-Troms) was for some reason or another making friends with Marshall Zhukov, and from 1945, after the war, to somewhat into the 1950s, they was pen-pals of sorts... Even then, in the end it kind of stooped up, as the "sensor-police" on both sides of the cold war, kind of ruined all possibility of a meanings full writings... Marshall Zhukov was no warm and cuddly friends of Stalin to be sure.. He could play the game, but Zhukov and Stalin was never close and warm friends... Stalin was afraid of the popularity of Zhukov, and was rather paranoid on his old ages.... And the only reason Zhukov, in the famous picture from May 9th, is riding on a white Horse taken from one of the german Generals was becouse 1 Stalin was afraid of beeing attaced on the horse, 2 he was afraid of beeing trow off the horse, 3 he was kind of afraid off the horses...

my just today (Happy Birthday Dad!) 84 year old father... is not as wordy but wise nonetheless... fought in Japan in WWII and came home to support the family driving truck until he retired... last month he asked me what I thought President Obama's chance was... I said "good and I'm going to do all I can to help"... (he is surrounded by Republicans where he lives) he explained that he sure hopes so because Romney is "No Good" (this as a Michigander)

Unfortunately, we're losing that generation to time's inexorable move forward, so there soon will be no common memory of a time when The Great Depression caused such a horrible societal breakdown. The forerunners of today's lunatic right-wing did everything they could to keep the status quo of the very wealthy as comfortable as possible. As Lawrence O'Donnell has said, they called the GI Bill "welfare".

In the wake of the 2004 "election" debacle, the late, great Molly Ivins wrote an absolutely BRILLIANT essay on why the United States wouldn't elect another Republican for a long, long time. Part of it can be found here: http://www.pensitoreview.com/2007/09/28/molly-ivins-was-right/, but I'll bet most of you are familiar with it.

Mitt is indeed, a dead chicken. I hope we don't have to be re-taught this lesson.

On edit...the link doesn't work. Here's the part of the essay that was published.

A few days after the 2004 elections, the late Molly Ivins found a small sliver of a silver lining in the reelection of George W. Bush.
If the GOP nominee runs against Bush, he risks alienating the GOP base, none of whom he can afford to lose. If he runs with the president, he'll have a very hard time peeling off 20 or 30 percent of independents, without whom he can't win.

Some people think you cannot break a dog that has got in the habit of killin’ chickens, but my friend John Henry always claimed you could. He said the way to do it is to take one of the chickens the dog has killed and wire the thing around the dog’s neck, good and strong. And leave it there until that dead chicken stinks so bad that no other dog or person will even go near that poor beast. Thing’ll smell so bad the dog won’t be able to stand himself. You leave it on there until the last little bit of flesh rots and falls off, and that dog won’t kill chickens again.

The Bush administration is going to be wired around the neck of the American people for four more years, long enough for the stench to sicken everybody. It should cure the country of electing Republicans.

They hated Romney, despised Romney, distrusted Romney, un-enthused by Romney, but are very resigned to Romney getting the official GOP nod. So, with great reluctance, and tons of misgivings, they will vote for Romney, because at some point, it's "anyone but Obama"....right?

Well maybe not so fast. The Republican Party has been in a marked disarray since Bush won his second term. Denial may have kept those RW party grumblings to a minimum while he was in office, but his exit polls screamed loud and clear.

Lack of enthusiasm for McCain was evident in his last ditch effort to energize the base by choosing Palin for VP. Old man boring and angry, and young woman stupid (and prone to displaying that to too often), just simply didn't work out so well. The party is having a very hard time re-grouping and defining themselves.

The Tea Baggers step in and and try hard line rebranding of the GOP. It seems to have some effect in mid term elections, but really doesn't have a strong enough foothold in the approaching Presidential Race.

Tea Baggers try to rally around one GOP candidate after another. Each time they fall...they fall hard. The party sees the continued decline of their beloved GOP "values" (whatever) in the remaining candidates. Finally it looks like it's Romney is to be their man. The candidate that never got it quite right. The candidate the right leaning part of the nation NEVER rallied behind. At least not in the same manner as Perry, Cain or even (lord save us) Santorum. But never mind, the GOP is counting on "anyone but Obama" as the winning strategy to get a Republican into the Whitehouse.

What the GOP is failing to recognize is a small rift in the seemingly desperate "anyone but Obama" crowd. The "anyone but Obama" drifters, justification for voting for Romney, is recognizing that the GOP strategies and policies has damaged the economy, the GOP has really done a number on it's own brand. Is Romney the one to really redirect all of that? Is Romney going to effectively rebrand the Republican party in a more positive light, ready for 2016 for a second GOP term in the Whitehouse....or is he more likely to do even further damage that will taint any Presidential hopefuls in 2016. The drifters are treading into sensitive territory acknowledging that perhaps it's better that Romney doesn't make it to the Whitehouse 2012. Perhaps it's better that they let Obama deal with this economic mess for one more term in the hopes of damaging the DLC brand? Perhaps they will stay home.....the muttering is not so much "anyone by Obama" to a growing crowd, it's more like, "how to stop Romney from creating a giant public GOP cluster fuck".
