Man smashes toy gun, points real gun at boy
Denton police responded to a call about a neighbor who had allegedly taken and smashed a boy’s toy gun Friday before retrieving a real gun from his house and pointing it at the boy.
The boy was playing in the neighbor’s yard while his parents and other neighbors were socializing in southwest Denton. He reported to police that the neighbor took his toy gun, smashed it and said he would show the boy a real gun. The neighbor allegedly pointed a real gun at the boy several times, according to the police report.
The neighbor told police he did smash the boy’s toy gun and said he got out his gun because he wanted to teach the boy discipline since his parents weren’t teaching it to him. He said he didn’t point the gun at the boy, although six witnesses reported seeing him do it, according to the report.
Police could smell alcohol on the man’s breath, according to the police report. Police arrested the man and charged him with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
