(12,482 posts)Rove will lull Obama into a complacency. And when the president is thirty points up the day before (after?) the election, he will spring his trap.

(22,000 posts)But I have yet to see any proof. Why would Rove let Romney tank so bad? Does he think when Romney releases his taxes and there is nothing bad in them (suspending reality for a second assuming both are true) that once a VP candidate is selected he will suddenly become this fun loving, understanding, compassionate guy? I'm not seeing the logic. They have essentially tripled down on the tax issue refusing to release them.
If you give me some evidence and logic behind this "theory" I might be persuaded to think about it. Otherwise it's just flat out not true.

(2,431 posts)Because when he rides in like the cavalry in gets Romney the job, Romney will do anything and everything he says without even blinking.
The Office of the President will become the ultimate straw man. Blamed for everything and totally unaccountable. Voting will become the equivalent of fighting a traffic ticket. Or getting FreeCreditReport to stop auto-billing you.
The men who actually run things will be completely isolated and inaccessible to us because they will hold no elected office.

There are some people on DU that seem to believe this though.

(5,420 posts)or if they have just seen so much crap from repigs that they think everything is a plot. I know I have grown quite suspicious myself due to that, but it seems quite obvious to me that this tax thing is not a plot that is going to hurt us in the end. Like the poster suggests, it has leveled too much damage that cannot be reversed with a squeaky clean return.

(22,000 posts)My state, Oregon I am not worried about much. States like Florida, Ohio, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Virginia, Iowa, Colorado, Pennsylvania, and New Mexico most of them have Republicans in office (I think NC is the exception) and we should be concerned about those states.
Ps-I'm sure I left out a bunch of states I couldn't think of off the top of my head....

(114 posts)My prediction: The GOp has a billion bucks that they're itching to wallpaper the hand-picked replacement for Mitt with, and they'll be doing that just a few months before the election, giving The President little time to frame an attack.
Just my two cents.
And another two cents: Obama will bitch-slap anybody the GOP throws at him.
To quote Bill Maher, President Obama is one black ninja gangster president.

(9,696 posts)win a brokered convention. Doubtful Obama needs much time to frame an attack. It's already written and waiting.
I only say this because so far, they (OFA) have run a pretty good campaign, doesn't seem like they're missing a beat. They have folders on any and all potential VP pics as well.
Obama won't bitch slap anyone, because he won't need to.

(114 posts)I'm still stunned that they let Rmoney go through with it. Maybe because they know it's a losing year...

(75,480 posts)favor of Jeb Bush in 2016. Romney/Ryan are a couple of pests they wanted out of the way. I believe their plan is to control Congress and block Obama every inch of the way for another four years, then boom here comes the Bush years again.
Obama's best bet, if he gets a Boehner/McConnell Congress thrown at him, is to get an Attorney General in the mode of Bobby Kennedy. An aggressive Attorney General should start investigating all those Tea Party Congressmembers. Most of them are dirty and have criminal skeletons in the closet. I would start with Darryl Issa.
Unfortunately, I think Obama won't do that and will still try for compromise, while those shit holes continue to treat him like the shoe shine boy. He still gets a lot done but it will still look like he's failing and that gives old Jebbers a platform to run for in 2016, a fresh start or some such gibberish.

(3,977 posts)Bishop RMoney (yes , he is a high ranking Bishop in the Mormon church) has been stiffing the Mormon church out of heir full tithe for years.... He is a greedy bastard ... Not illegal , but Huntsmans daughter has strongly hinted atit, and now Reid has called him on it , he is "damned" is he shows those returns and I don't mean in a political sense.

(9,696 posts)are other mormons. Some might vote for him anyhow, just to have a mormon in the WH. Other people might think that giving to a church is a voluntary thing, and if he choose not to give that much, so what? By any measure he's still given a lot.
No, he doesn't want the American people to see how he has avoided taxes all these years. An that will hurt him, because every middle class person who pays a higher percentage in taxes than he does will be pissed - and rightly so.

(20,135 posts)His candidate LOST in 2000 (or even if you think he won legitimately, he still lost the popular vote by 500,000 and only won Florida by 538 votes). And in 2004 Bush won by the slimmest margin in the Electoral College for any incumbent almost 100 years.
What did Rove ever do that was so "genius"?

(12,482 posts)The guy broke the Republican brand fro many swing voters and a whole generation of young people. The only smart long-term thing I associate with him is that he seems to understand the shifting demographics of our country as it becomes more Hispanic. And that isn't genius. That's just recognizing something obvious that many right wingers don't.
