Google on Friday announced that beginning next week, Google Search will begin filter results based on valid copyright complaints. Websites that receive a high number of complaints will be pushed down lower and further back in Googles search results. As Google explained about the new policy in a blog post:
Starting next week, we will begin taking into account a new signal in our rankings: the number of valid copyright removal notices we receive for any given site. Sites with high numbers of removal notices may appear lower in our results.

Think about it in terms of how a copyright troll could use this against sites like DU. Not just for news stories but for accompanying imagery, like photos. "Valid" is pretty damned murky, IMO, and if Google's version of "valid" is any less stringent than the letter of the law allows, then there will simply be abuse.
Pretty fucked, IMO.

Why would anyone send an infringement notice to Google when it needs to go to the ISP hosting the infringement?
Sure, if the host is YouTube, but that is not the way any of the articles are written.
