LOL!!! Romney To Obama: Truce? Asks That Business Record, Taxes Be Off-Limits

“Our campaign would be — helped immensely if we had an agreement between both campaigns that we were only going to talk about issues and that attacks based upon — business or family or taxes or things of that nature,” Romney said, according to excerpts of an upcoming interview with NBC’s Chuck Todd released Friday.

Romney said he would prefer the campaigns “only talk about issues,” and claimed that “our ads haven’t gone after the president personally. … We haven’t dredged up the old stuff that people talked about last time around. We haven’t gone after the personal things.”

Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul offered up a broader take on whether Romney was really suggesting that his career at Bain Capital — the crux of his argument that he is better equipped to handle the economy — should be considered off-limits.

“The governor was expressing his view that he hopes we can have a campaign focused on the issues rather than one of desperation and lies as we’ve seen from the Obama campaign,” Saul said in an e-mail.

How do we create a fair tax structure?

in the previous several years, but he gave deeply discounted stock

Something similar may be operating here.

Would rMoney's tax returns list gifts to business associates, or grant
stock or options to prominent businessmen/women or even public figures?

Don't let this tax return issue drop. It needs to be explained why the 99%
should pay more while the 1% pay, in some instances, nothing.

Vote for me because I have an awesome business record, he said. The catch is that even though he gets to brag about it nobody else can talk about it. So the first rule of Mittens' business record is you don't talk about Mittens' business record. Or his taxes.

Maybe the Obama campaign should offer the following deal:

We'll stop demanding your tax returns and suggesting you're a predatory capitalist who destroys jobs and takes away people's health insurance if you and your campaign and your surrogates promise to stop suggesting the President is unpatriotic, unamerican, foreign, socialist, strange, Kenyan, or Muslim or that he hates America and wants black people to get free money from the government. And not another word about birth certificates.

No way would the GOPers take that offer.

"Can we just agree not to attack each other on the basis of philosophies, economics and stuff like that?"

So, he wants to take:

"business or family or taxes or things of that nature"

Family? I think everyone agrees that the Romney family is an intact nuclear family, as is the Obama family. Clean living, healthy and smart kids, loving first spouses... the Cleavers and the Huxtables. Both fine families.

I wonder why he threw in "family", unless that includes Bain steering investment money to one of the Romney boys' businesses.

Now, if anyone wants to play "who's your daddy?" in the distinct political sense which has, oddly, become an obsession to some for the first time that the present has a darker shade of skin than previous presidents, I don't see the gain either way. We've had adopted or fatherless presidents (Ford, Clinton), and both Mr. Romney and Mr. Obama are a generation removed from polygamy in their family histories.

"Religion", strangely, is not on the list, because that's a FUN one:

1. Mr. Obama is the secret Muslim who, nonetheless, "sat in the pew for years" listening to the scary black Christian preacher; and

2. Mr. Romney believes a con man dug up holy golden plates which nobody ever saw, translated them by looking at rocks in a hat, learned the plates were put there by the original Hebrew inhabitants of the Americas and, consequently, wears sacred underwear. And, whatever your opinion happens to be, the fact of the matter is that the evangelical backbone of GOP religious voters has unequivocally and expressly taught that Mormonism is pretty much an abomination.

What a crybaby.

They haven't repeated the personal attacks of four years ago because they didn't work then and they won't work now. The RW has played the unAmerican, birther, Muslim, fraud, African, Socialist, etc. card for four years. What new lies is Rmoney going to come up with?

They can attack his record of the past four years, but they have to be prepared for immediate responses calling out their lies, to say nothing of the latest "revelation" that it has been republican party policy for four years to block Obama at every step of the way. So, you want to talk policy, go ahead. But you ain't got nothin' to go on, so have at it.

As for asking that business record and tax returns be off the table, I also thought this was an Onion report. The man is 65 years old and for most of his adult life has been in business. To sort of paraphrase Rmoney, that's fair game, my friends. Also, he may not want to run on his record as governor, which is understandable since MA showed a net job loss over the course of his term and a 66% disapproval rating when he left office, but when that's all you have as an elected official, what does he think, that it's not open to discussion. What planet is this man living on?

Edited to add:

Oh, an one more thing. Does this clown not realize that no matter what he might choose to cover or not cover in his ads, he has no control over the PACS (allegedly). And they do not play well with others. And, for the first time in decades, neither does our side. So, stop whining, put on your grown up pants, and get with the program.

I had missed the bit on Kolob, and looked it up before I asked what you were talking about.

Kolob? This is what Mormons are taught? Okay. Maybe it's no different than Hinduism with its many gods and goddesses, but these traditions go back thousands of years. Kolob? 150 years. And made up out of whole cloth.

"The governor was expressing his view that he hopes we can have a campaign focused on the issues rather than one of desperation and lies as we’ve seen from the Obama campaign,” Saul said in an e-mail.

Even their feeble and ridiculous attempt at negotiation with a political rival is insulting beyond belief. Can you imagine global negotiations with, say, Iran?

part comes at the end of the article:

“Look, I would not be in this race had I spent my life in politics alone,” Romney said at an October primary debate. “Nothing wrong with that, of course, but right now, with the American people in the kind of financial crisis they are in, they need someone who knows how to create jobs, and I do.”

That message was reinforced in ads. Most recently, this biographical spot last month that opens with Romney’s business experience:

By saying he "only wants to talk about the issues" that's what he means. Since Romney's past, his taxes, his one term as governor, and his tenure at Bain Capital would be off limits, all there is left is how Obama has handled things, and how Romney can do better.

I've never seen such a campaign so desperately struggling to tread water. Now it's Mitt who's "in over his head".

Because he knew if he ran on his record as GOVERNOR, there would be tons of people who would gladly tell us how awful he was. Obama can make a $10,000 dollar bet "Hey Mitt, I bet you will not carry your own state in the election, nor Michigan!" He ran as a businessman, so it became fair game to attack him as one, especially since his record is not that great. A Warren Buffet, a Steve Jobs, hell, even a Trump could at least say they were successful, he cannot.

Q.

I'd rather not.

Q.

Nope.

Q.
Can we talk about you making $14 million while claiming to be "unemployed"?

Rmoney.
Nah.

Q.
Can we talk about how the Tax Policy Center said your tax plan lowers taxes for people like you while raising taxes on the middle class?

Rmoney.
I'll get back to you on that.

Q.
So Mr. Rmoney, if we can't talk about your past, your present, or your future, what can we talk about?

So the Romney camp is accusing the Obama camp of doing what they're doing (using desperation and lies) and want them to stick to the issues, meaning the desperation and lies that they're putting out?

They sit around the table talking about the market, their horses, which house they will vacation at, whether or how much the Picasso they are considering buying will appreciate in value, should we redecorate the house in MA, you know, everyday things like that.

It is an arrogance that comes from privilege and lack of understanding how regular people think and live - the vast 99% of the world. They are afraid of us and must control us any way they can. They are people who believe they are entitled to be rulers because of their privilege.

There is a small restaurant chain with one near me. It's on the expensive side for this area. When you walk in, they treat you like you are a VIP. It feels good to be treated like that. If you are treated like that everywhere you go it probably gives you a false sense of your own worth.

It has been the unspoken rule for decades.

Republicans can punch below the belt (Willy Horton and Swift Boat ads)
punch the kidneys (Obama is a Muslim, a foreigner)
punch behind the head (criticizing Obama's foreign policy overseas)
punch in the clinch
punch after the bell (Obama takes soooo many vacations)
punch when you're down on the mat
kick, thumb eyes, bite off ears, throw elbows
whatever it takes to win --
lie (every word from Romney's mouth so far is a lie),
cheat (PAC money made possible by Citizens United), and
steal (voter suppression laws, rigged voting machines, etc.)
and they never get disqualified for it.

-- BUT, when a Democrat starts landing body-shots that hurt because
they hit the mark and score points with the judges,
OOHHHH MY MY, how the bully cries FOUL and NO-FAIRZIES.

Repubs have always fought by street-fight rules. Totally shameless.
