I am relieved it wasn't Marco Rubio [a post I had embargoed until after Romney made his pick]

Yes Rubio has the baggage, but he still scared me because he would have been the first Hispanic nominee for a national office, thereby giving the GOP some insulation from otherwise very true charges that their party has become anti-immigrant.

It would have been that much harder to win Florida.

The hard won gains Democrats have achieved with younger Cubans in Florida could be lost.

Obama's massive support from Mexican-Americans could drop down to the level of an unimpressive majority, as in John Kerry levels from 2004.

I feared that the national news media would have absolutely gone goo-goo, gah-gah over him for months and months.
