As of Today, the Stakes of the 2012 Election Are Knowingly Dire

Before choosing Ryan, Romney did not really have a strong stance on the issues. He has recently flipped his stance on many many issues that he had just 10 years ago as Governor of Massachusetts. Furthermore, he didn't really have a strong economic plan. He has repeatedly said this election cycle that he supported the Ryan plan, but never really adopted it as his plan. Until now.

Now, like it or not, The Ryan Plan is the Romney Plan (or as the Obama campaign has been calling it this election cycle, the Romney-Ryan plan). Romney has basically doubled-down. The stakes are high, very high. Imagine if Romney/Ryan win.

Just imagine, for a moment, the nightmare scenario, whether they win by fooling the populace or stealing the election, that they are declared the next President/V.P. of the U.S. They will take it as a mandate to implement the Ryan plan. They will roll back decades of work on necessary and well-established social programs. They will change the future of America from a land of opportunity for all, to a land of the privileged and the poor. The ACA will be repealed or go unimplemented. Medicare will be ended as we know it and Social Security will be privatized. Any non-military department of the federal government will be shut down. State government after state government will buckle under the financial pressures and our infrastructure will suffer. The middle class that has been attempting a struggling comeback will be completely wiped out. And conservatives will dominate the federal government for who knows how long. The country will shift to the right, just before it flies off the cliff into anarchy.

Now imagine Obama/Biden win. It will be a repudiation of the Teabagger mentality of everyone for themselves and "let it die" approach to funding the government. The ACA will become fully implemented and America will join the other industrialized nations in caring for its sick. Medicare and Social security will be strengthened and a budget will be established by returning tax revenue to a reasonable level. The economy will be stabilized and the middle class will have a chance to re-establish itself. The country will have an enduring shift to the left and we could see a lengthy time of slow and steady prosperity.

These are the stakes at hand. Romney choosing Ryan for his VP doubled down on the tea bagger control of the Federal Government. This cannot be allowed to happen.

Haven't you been listening? "Responsible Democrats" here just assured me Obama was going to take away Social Security. Hence, the only reasonable thing to do is vote for some unnamed third party candidate! Surely that will help, right? I mean, what's the worst that could happen?

I mean, aside from everything you talked about.

...Do I need a sarcasm tag here? Is it at all telling that I have to ask?

Wake up, DU. K&R.
