Well this is counter-intuitive

Looking at who plays the Vermont Lottery
9:07 PM, Aug 11, 2012 |

Nearly 20 percent of the people playing the Vermont Lottery have postgraduate or professional degrees, according to a survey conducted for the Vermont Lottery Commission.

That’s up nine percentage points from 2008, the last time the commission had a survey done.

People with graduate degrees make up a bigger slice of the lottery playing population at 19.6 percent than they do of the general population where they comprise 13.1 percent.

Even six years ago, however, more than half the lottery players in Vermont had at least some college education and now the percentage of players with some courses, a college diploma or post-graduate degree comes to a total of 63 percent.

The new survey also showed that the income bracket with the highest percentage of players — 22 percent — was the over-$95,000 category.
