Firstly, team Rmoney doesn't really build up to this announcement but lets it slip out on a Friday night...like a booooosh regime document dump...after the beltway mediaheads have headed off to their drinkie drinkie parties. Second...this is one of the last vacation weekends before school; many are away and not connected to the political noise. Then there's the Olympics sucking up a lot of the television viewing...Eddie Munster doesn't rate when people are tuned in to see Gaby Douglas or Usain Bolt or Women's Beach Volleyball. The initial impact is a dull thud...not quite the "game changer" we were hearing that the rushpublicans were looking for.
Most people don't know who Wolfgang Ryan is yet...and the race is on to define him. He's no Mooselini but he's no game changer either. He'll moisten the loins of the teabaggers and hate radio types but there's little crossover. He won't carry his home state and could be a liability in Florida and Arizona.
From what I've seen, Ryan's glass jaw is his thin skin. He will get very, very defensive when questioned about specifics and it'll be fun to see Team Obama box him in with those specifics.
