McCain: Obama Attacks Succeeding At Painting Romney As Unacceptable

McCain: Obama Attacks Succeeding At Painting Romney As Unacceptable

Sahil Kapur

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) on Sunday slammed President Obama’s reelection campaign as one of the most “disgraceful” and negative he’s ever seen, but conceded that the attacks have “succeeded to a certain degree” at disqualifying Mitt Romney with voters.

<...>

“In 2008, this president and the people around him promised hope and change, a new environment in Washington,” McCain said. “And now it’s probably deteriorated into the most negative, most unpleasant, most disgraceful campaign that I have ever observed, and I’ve been intimately involved in them since 1984.”

“I’ve got to give them credit, they have succeeded to a certain degree, of painting — with nothing but attack ads — Mitt Romney into something that’s not an acceptable alternative, because he can’t run on his record,” McCain continued.

It’s a remarkable admission that Romney’s other surrogates haven’t made. The Romney campaign and its supporters insist voters will punish Obama for the negativity.

Wait, worse than your campaign against Obama ("palling around with terrorists" ring a bell)? How about the swiftboating of John Kerry? How about Bush's campaign against you in 2000?

The entire Romney campaign is based on lies about Obama. All rethugs do is run negative campaigns because they have no solutions other than to double-down on things we've tried in the past which have failed miserably.

And to attack Obama for negative ads but then admit they are working is a whole other level of hypocrisy.

Obama's and Dem PAC ads tell the truth. The ugly truth. That's why they seem negative.

Here in VA, I have seen many Romney ads, over and over again. Not a single one is truthful. All are misleading at best and downright lies at worst.

In 2000, they questioned McCain's sexuality and accused his wife of being an addict. Rove claimed he fathered an illegitimate child with a black prostitute.

The pro-Obama Super PAC simply showed how people's lives are destroyed by vulture capitalist and why health care is important.

promise hundreds of millions in money to secret organizations to support the Republicans.

And we saw during the Republican primary how vicious their ads will be.

Obama should continue to point out the truth -- the Republican Party has nothing to offer the American people.

All the ideas they bring are old and have been tried and failed.

They get rich. We get poor.

The 99% is voting its own interests this time. Forget Romney and Ryan. Their ilk is history at least when it comes to politics.

when these two faced off for the Republican nomination for Election 2000. Remember the whispering campaign started against McCain that he had fathered an illegitimate child with an African-American woman? Played the race card throwing down a total untruth to rile both the family-values crowd as well as the prejudiced.

At least the Obama campaign's commercials are fact-based.

Shame on you, John McCain, for saying these are the worst ads you have ever seen....

Welcome to the 21st century John. We dems are feed up with your (party's) BULLSHIT. Hows it feel to take a punch? And we don't have to lie. When your party speaks, all that it spews out is lies, hate and more lies. Your latest BULLSHIT about Obama trying to curtail the military's access to voting in Ohio makes me want to PUKE. Supply side economics is the greatest con job ever. Hope you lose the House and the Senate as well (you can forget about the White House).
