CNN Poll: Optimism on the economy drops

A new national survey indicates that the number of Americans who say things are going badly in the country is on the rise, as a growing number of people believe that economic conditions are getting worse.

The number of Americans who said that things were going well had been slowly but steadily rising since last fall, but numbers from a CNN/ORC International poll released Friday reverse that trend, with optimism about how things are going in the country now at 36% down seven points from April. And 63% say things are going poorly, up six points from April.

According to the survey, the number of people who say that the economy is starting to recover has also dropped five points since April, from 24% to 19%, while the number who say that the economy is still in a downturn is up six points to 39%.

"That all seems bad news for President Barack Obama's re-election chances, but only if Mitt Romney can capitalize on it," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.

and rising fast. Not much to be optimistic about.

I do wish our President would say something about it, not that there's much he can do. 1%ers rule the world and the skies the limit as far as they are concerned. Just in time for elections and such.

Fire in a refinery is the excuse.

Of course, that actually shows the oil companies are too cheap to build reserve capacity.

Plus, 2Q numbers sucked and most economists see an improvement in jobs and growth in 3Q.

He doesn't just trail in most every poll, he's always way behind in "cares about people like me," "will work for the middle class," etc. Tax cuts for the rich have been around for three decades now; looks like some voters at least are catching on.

It doesn't have to be true

It doesn't even have to make sense.

It isn't even meant for your ears.

Unless you live inside the beltway and attend all the A list cocktail parties.
