On 60 minutes, Ryan completely dominated the interview. Romney came off as he always does; no energy, passionless and insincere. He's a compulsive liar but a poor one. Ryan is a far more polished liar and better evader.
I just read that the two are splitting up after tonight's even in Wisconsin (going on now) and won't be appearing together until the convention in two weeks. I suspect that Ryan will garner bigger and more enthusiastic crowds and he's so much more at ease in the spotlight than Romney.
McCain may have come off as the grumpy old man but at least he has a personality- curmudgeonly as it is- and a vivid biography. Mitt?
He's an unlikable cypher.
Mitt is the top of the ticket and that's who people ultimately vote for or don't. All the fanfare around Ryan may well hurt him more than it helps him. It's a comparison that doesn't favor Mitt.
He's a weak candidate who just keeps getting weaker.

It's the Dem's job to make the seniors believe they're in jeopardy of losing out.

(34,582 posts)and, so far, the Obama team has been doing a good job on Romney.

(14,177 posts)Ryan isn't going to help him at all, he is just going to highlight Mitt's wimp factor. And the spot light on Ryan and his budget plan is the last thing the 1% should want.

(14,177 posts)GW is also more likable than Mittens. GW seemed to listen to his handlers err advisers. I just don't see Mittens gaining any traction with getting people to like him. Mittens isn't the kind of guy you want to share a beer with, he's the kind you want to pour your beer on.

(204,590 posts)And while he's not particularly likable, he looks the part, and there are always the "low information voters" who haven't heard a word he's said, just make up their minds for any old reason. Those are the ones I worry about after 2004, well that and yet another case of voter supression or stealing. It's already begun with voter ID laws and curtailing the voting window for Democratic districts...

(14,177 posts)I just think this time around there are going to be too many votes to suppress. I really am not taking an Obama win as a given. I am taking it as a given when people see Mitt they aren't going to like him. No amount of money can make that man likable. If he hadn't been born with a silver spoon in his mouth he would have been a second rate lemon salesman. He might have made some money, but everyone in town would hate him. And the thing about the beer is I know he is not supposed to drink, hence the reason it would end up on him rather than in him.

(114,904 posts)As was already clear, Ryan won't release anything more than Romney has released and he quickly pivoted (and adeptly) pivoted from that question. Still, it was not a good moment for him.

(31,706 posts)Yep...they'll send Eddie Munster to predominately red states and try to make him the latest "great white hope"...to save the other "great white hope". Willard barely draws flies at most staged events and even less enthusiasm...an awful campaigner. They'll let Ryan spew talking points and try to whip up the people who were supposed to already be on his side.
In his attempt to make the teabaggers happy, Willard has taken a big step in losing not only Florida but even an Arizona. Ryan will stay on safe turf...they won't dare to send him anywhere the evil corporate media can make him look bad. I also expect Woflgang will be the headliner at dozens of fundraisers and SuperPac parties...

(8,556 posts)Palin got a lot of attention in large part because of her identity. She was only the second woman to be on a major-party ticket. And she also came out of nowhere, which fueled interest as well (who IS this woman, anyway). Like many people, I had never heard of her when she was announced. (Fun fact: She was unveiled on the same stage where I graduated from HS).
I don't think the media is going to pay attention to Ryan the way they paid attention to her. In the end, he's another boring guy from the House. His budget will come up a lot, but I think the focus will still be on Mitt. Lest us not forget that the focus was still primarily on McCain last time as well.
Ryan is really a 'Palin-lite' choice. Somewhat unexpected and young, but still a known quantity in Washington and in the press corps, if not in the country at large.

(8,556 posts)But OTOH, it was their first joint interview and so a lot of the focus is going to be on the new guy at this stage. And he was probably encouraged to be lively.
It's also true that the Mittster is somewhat lacking in the personality department, so there's that too.
