You paid no respects to the Rolling Stones in either the opening or closing ceremonies. Not a single second for the "World's Greatest Rock and Roll Band". Sir Mick Jagger and your friend Keith? The Queen says fuck you, we have shitty Beatles music we can play.
Wow, thanks for respecting a person's opinion on matters unrelated to politics.

(15,189 posts)Just because the Rolling Stones are still together, doesn't mean shit. The Beatles were the kings the RS were the jokers. Aftermath is the ONLY record I can listen to from start to finish. LOL! If it weren't for the Beatles, the Stones would have been another Paul Revere and the Raiders. 4 top ten songs, and gone before 1970. The Stones needed the Beatles to make it.
al_liberal
(420 posts)He tells how the Stones and the Beatles worked together to make sure they never released a new song at the same time. Keith also talks about the lost weekend he and John Lennon spent together.

(9,893 posts)"Kicks" vs. "Satisfaction"?? Plus the later stuff like "Start Me Up" and my favorite "Beast of Burden"??
The Stones may not be the Beatles, but they are clearly up there with the best of British Rock.

(4,569 posts)I didnt think, to be honest, we were quite stage ready. We havent played in a long time and we werent really stage-ready, and its a very big gig and its very risk-taking.----Mick Jagger

Not to mention not including your favorite group is NOT a good reason to make the idiotic condemnation of an entire country. (I LIKED the Stones)

(24,634 posts)As for GB and the Queen...I'm not a Loyalist...they can fuck themselves alongside, the Queen, and Sir Mick Jagger....the rich ass, and overly glorified pedophile.
On another point...the people are teh awesomeness. Their government...meh.

(39,191 posts)A song ("Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" DJ's use to go to the bathroom or smoke a joint doesn't make them the world's greatest rock band

(4,251 posts)I really liked the closing ceremony...I am a huge RS fan since they first started (I'm old) and also a Beatles fan. I loved the Who and Queen there. Wasn't it great to see Freddy Mercury again? He was resurrected. Amazing.
The other acts were great. I didn't know a lot of the new ones but I still enjoyed them. George Michael was so good...My son looks like him, even won a look alike contest years ago.
There was so much energy and color in the ceremony. It was very communal.

(5,436 posts)There are only three contestants, if you count groups that released albums.
1) Beatles (based on history)
2) Traveling Wilburys (based on members)
3) The Million Dollar Quartet (based on members)
If you don't add "released albums", then any of a bunch of one-off supergoups qualify (at benefit concerts, etc)
The rock oracle has spoken.
