There is no saving/investing strategy that you can use which will pay for your health needs when you are in your 60s. None. Ryan's vouchers WILL NOT COVER your insurance premiums.
If Ryan's plan is enacted, it will literally be a death sentence for anyone aged 55 and under. You're only option will be to move to another nation. You will not be able to live in the U.S. when you are 65 or older.

(40,656 posts)and the cost to the company. They send it because i'm doing healthy stuff and taking my medicine on a regular basis. I stopped adding it up when it topped five grand. That is five grand out of pocket and I have good insurance. You better get the medicare stuff out there, youngin's. Trust me.

(111,245 posts)Age disqualified them and insurance companies wouldn't write the policies. That meant one spouse used up all the retirement savings leaving the other spouse in penury with nothing left for their children, not even the family home or hockable jewelry.
Ryan is too young to remember that part.

He's not that rich.
Romney is that rich. He could survive cancer followed by half a dozen organ transplants without it making a dent in his money.

(31,493 posts)Oh yea she "had" insurance who negotiated the bill down to $8500. So why was the bill 47k? They are vampires feeding off the pain and suffering of people. You would have to have 100's of thousands saved up to pay for the kind of health care you will need in your old age. Unless you are part of the 1% with out Medicare (@ a cost of $99 a month) you will either have to move out of the country or die! For that matter, who can afford $99 a month which doesn't include the cost of the witches brew they call medicine?

(22,000 posts)over $30,000 for five days. I had to have respiratory care and was isolated for the first 4 days (at least it was quite). She must have had a lot more tests then I did (of course they pretty much had an idea what was wrong with me from the get go as they had it narrowed down to three things). I hate going to the hospital even just for a check up.

(149,585 posts)I've had several health issues, none life-threatening, that have come along since I was eligible for Medicare. I am so happy to have it.
Many doctors in my area are still accepting Medicare patients, and that is a relief.

(19,326 posts)a $6000 voucher will buy like ONE overnight hospital visit, if that; depending
on what all they do while you are there.
Surgery $30,000 - 50,000 leaving YOU holding the bag for the rest of it.

(19,326 posts)when I got the financial statement from my last surgery,
there were these weird obscure notions like
$7000 for "supplies" .. or $8000 for "medications"...
and I was only in for like 2-3 days.
Many have known for a long time that "war is a racket" .. now
we're learning the hard way that "Medical care is a racket" too.

He's a legitimate businessmen. Don't see what the big deal is.
There's nothing similar between the two of them.

Bernie Madoff passed off a Ponzi scheme as legit. Paul Ryan passed off a Republican budget as legit.
99th_Monkey
(19,326 posts)like I said already.. they're cut from same privileged cloth; but
there are also slight differences .. i.e. Ryan's working for Gov-mint
trying to obliterate Gov-mint and auction it off to the likes of Madoff,
for example. like a hand & a glove operation.
Mitt Romney was going to pick Madoff as his VP but then realized he's in jail.
That reminds me to buy cool gloves... I need a good writing glove.

You may be covered automatically by the plan in the country where you move to.
You should check this before you go.
My brother-in-law went the UK on vacation, had some heart trouble. They treated him. No charge.
Make sure you research this before you go.

(30,947 posts)I was working up till 2010. I was on my employer's health plan. I was already old enough for Medicare, but my employer's health plan was much better. I paid $200 a month for life insurance, medical, dental and eye care. So I decided not to take Medicare. When I was laid off, I was thankful that I would be able to switch to Medicare. There were 3 other people laid off at the same time and they were all under 55. So, I considered myself fortunate to be able to switch to Medicare.
