Our athletes represented us well. They made me cry several times. It was exciting to see an American win back Greg Louganis' title in diving. It was inspiring to see Michael Phelps reach such a pinnacle. For generations they will speak of his wins and he will be a source of pride for America's future just as Jesse Owens and Mark Spitz are still spoken of today.

Thank you for the spectacle that is the Olympics. There were times over the past weeks where I forgot all about politics and wars. I was just too busy being dazzled by flips and dives and races and tight spandex pants to think of anything but sport and national pride.

So, thank you American Olympic team. For a brief few weeks we were all part of the same team again. I liked how that felt.

I didn't follow much throughout, but did see some wonderful stuff tonight. Real joy, real accomplishment, real life. It was great to see those thrilled faces smiling like they meant it.
