USAT/Gallup Poll: Paul Ryan gets low marks for VP

USAT/Gallup Poll: Paul Ryan gets low marks for VP

By Catalina Camia

Ryan, a Wisconsin congressman, is seen as only a "fair" or "poor" choice by 42% of Americans vs. 39% who think he is an "excellent" or "pretty good" vice presidential choice.

<...>

The poll also finds 17% of adults say they're more likely to vote for Romney in November because Ryan is his running mate -- about the same impact Palin had for John McCain four years ago among registered voters.

Republicans, however, see the appeal in Ryan, who was hailed this weekend as a bold, innovative thinker by party stalwarts. The poll finds 36% of Republicans are now more likely to vote for Romney. In 2008, only 3 in 10 Republicans said the choice of Palin made them more likely to vote for McCain.

The USA TODAY/Gallup survey also finds 48% of Americans view Ryan as qualified to be president if something should happen to Romney, while 29% do not and 23% were undecided. Only Palin, then the governor of Alaska, and Quayle, a two-term senator from Indiana, were rated lower than Ryan.

Wow, starting off in negative territory and in good company. Gallup also leans right.

McCain: Ryan Pick ‘Also A Bold Choice’ Like Palin

Asked if Mitt Romney’s selection of Paul like mirrors his 2008 selection of Sarah Palin as vice president, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) said on “Fox News Sunday” that Ryan is “also a bold choice.”

“I’m proud of Sarah and her family, and I’m proud of the work we did,” he said. “I think that in this case it is also a bold choice.”

If there is even a "bump" in the polls after VP selection, doesn't it level out later on? Lex Aug 2012 #5

Comparing your 2012 VP pick to your 2008 VP pick is not a good idea.

So please (I beg of you) keep doing it!

So let me try a little math here. The comparison to Palin continues, but they use weird equivalency comparisons.
To clarify:
36% more likley to vote for Romney in 2012 because of Ryan
33% more likely to vote for McCain in 2008 because of Palin

The use of the word however, implies that there are some differences to be seen. But running the numbers, the significant difference is............?

I have a feeling the more people find out about Ryan's views on Soc. Security and Medicare and cutting taxes to the very wealthy, the less they will like him--even a good portion of Republicans.
