http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/Martinez-refinery-reports-fire-is-out-3785251.phpA fire broke out in the light oil processing unit at the Shell refinery in Martinez Monday, the second East Bay refinery fire in a week, authorities said.
Contra Costa County hazardous materials units received reports about the fire on Pacheco Boulevard at about 2:40 p.m., according to local officials. After emitting a small amount of smoke, the fire was knocked down at about 3:15 p.m.
Health officials issued a health advisory to residents with pre-existing respiratory conditions to stay indoors and avoid the area, but lifted it once the fire was out.

These black plumes from the refineries always come at just the right time.
They are jacking the price up because they can make more money that way
and the people will blame Obama. Win-win for them.
[font color=gray]Then when Israel does it's little "October Surprise" in Iran,
look for it to soar past $10/gallon, just in time for the elections.

(13,355 posts)It isn't enough to use the last fire as a reason to jack prices up 50 cents a gallon...now what? $1 more? we are so screwn...
wish these fires, spills etc would just convince us that fossil fuels are NOT worth the damage, but humanity prefers the easy way i guess...

Lack of maintenance, neglect, insufficiently trained personnel, low wage workers, lack of appropriate action taken on a needed repairs, cheapness, sabotage by neglect.................
2 major fires in less than a week 3, gas prices going sky effin' eye, 2+ months away from a Presidential Election........

(36,364 posts)The Chevron fire went on for hours and there was a north wind (albeit extremely mild) that blow the crud towards populated areas. The area normally experiences summer afternoon onshore winds, blowing it away from populated areas, toward me.
