WARNING On Medicaid Going To States - Kids Will Pay

What Ryan Romney won't tell voters is that turning Medicaid over to the states will mean that immediate family members will become responsible for long term care of loves ones. That means that the states will be able to pass laws enabling them to file liens, garnishment of wages and claims against the assets of the children and maybe even the grandchildren of parents or family members.

Gingrich has removal of mandates in his budget until Clinton vetoed it. I know that what I am telling everyone on DU is true because my grandmother went into a nursing home before Medicaid in the late 1960's. My mom's sisters (she was not in Illinois at the time) were forced to pay for part of the care based on their level of income. They had to turn their financial records over to the state of Illinois in order determine the amount of payment each sister would be REQUIRED to pay each month. None payment would have meant legal action.

Right now the only assets that can be attached is the parent or family member who ends up on Medicaid and is in a nursing home.

VOTERS REALLY MUST UNDERSTAND THIS ASPECT OF MEDICAID IF IT IS TURNED OVER TO THE STATES.

Addendum - I was personally caught up in a dilemma around the care of my mother-in-law who passed at 104 1/2 just over 4 years ago. She had had a second stroke. My wife and I provided 24 care for 8 months and were up and down around the clock. She had some assets but we felt we needed to care for her as long as we needed until we had to put her in a home. We figured that she would have a couple of months left in a home that she could afford. She was just functional enough that we could handle it until professional care was needed. We could barely leave the house. One of us had to stay while the other ran errands. It was the most grueling thing I have ever done in my life. Vietnam was easier.

We were at the end of our rope and were at the time that she would have to go into a home. She passed just before we were forced to make that decision. She had gotten to the point where professional care would be needed. Physically she was doing pretty well but there was cancer on her cheek that had been treated several time that began to cause terrible pain. A hospice took her for for pain management with the idea we would bring her back home.

Most families are not prepared to do long term care at home. We were retired so we could do it.

Republicans will need to kill them until child labor laws are changed to where they can become economically productive. You know, like before the 20th century.
