So Romney got a chance to "start a business"...
What business was that.
Bill Bain offered Romney the chance to head a new venture that would invest in companies and apply Bain's consulting techniques to improve operations.[5] In the face of skepticism from potential investors, Romney and his partners spent a year raising the $37 million in funds needed to start the new operation, which had fewer than ten employees

The way that sounds, Bill Bain basically set up Bain Capital and Romney went out and pounded on doors to raise $37 million. Technically, yes, but the company was set up around the frame that Bain developed.
I know it might be "true", but it's not like me when I learned how to prepare taxes and went out to find clients with nothing more than my handsome face and my winning personality....
It did take Romney and his partners over a year to raise that $37 million sweating over the rolodex of his father and the other guys in the firms fathers and friends. I bet there wasn't someone in that bunch who wasn't from Harvard or any other prestigious school.
He also did work with Mr. Bain & company for seven years serving as the chief executive officer. This is basically saying he believes he started a firm just like Horatio Alger but in reality he was born half way between third and home and thinks he hit a home run.
I have no envy for that. That's the way things go in the "meritocracy" we call America. But he didn't strike out on his own and through his grit and brains, he built a great company.
Just wanted to add this to the mix...
