McCain, slamming Reid, again vouches for Romney's tax returns

McCain, slamming Reid, again vouches for Romney's tax returns

by Jed Lewison

The man who picked Sarah Palin after vetting Mitt Romney is once again vouching for Romney's secret tax returns, this time to Jon Ralston of the Las Vegas Sun and KSNV TV in Harry Reid's home state:

Arizona Sen. John McCain said today that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is wrong about his assertion that Mitt Romney did not pay taxes for 10 years, saying his team that vetted the presumptive GOP nominee in 2008 found no such thing. [...] "Nothing in his tax returns showed that he did not pay taxes," McCain said during an interview taped for "Face to Face" that will air Tuesday evening.

Given that McCain's team looked at 23 years of tax records, it would be virtually impossible for Romney to have paid no taxes, so McCain's comments don't really shed much light on the situation. Plus, McCain wouldn't have seen Romney's 2008 or 2009 tax returns, both of which Romney is keeping secret. And despite what McCain said, we still don't know why Romney is hiding them. But for those of us who want to know the answer, it was awfully nice of McCain to keep the question alive.

The 'tax return' saga might just be a distraction... All the DEMS really need to do is focus and stay on Ryan's RADICAL budget plan, and this election should be in the bag...

There's no way Romney can get away from it now - so now we need to make the American People hear about it every day until November!!!

Romney needs to release his tax returns. He's hiding something.

The only reason to keep it a secret is because he has to or people won't vote for him. He needs to continue to get hammered on this.

Polling would suggest that it isn't a distraction, but rather an issue that hurts Romney. But thanks.

The man wants the lead seat in a Government responsible for determining tax policy of its citizenry, and you want to give him a pass on sharing with the people what practices he employed with his own finances?

Why?

This does not suprise me. Of course the comments are carefully crafted. Did Romney pay taxes EVERY year McCaine? Did his tax rate ever dip below 13% for any years? Did they ever dip below 5%? Did Romney pay INCOME taxes every year?

Finally, why was it reasonable to expect for Romney to share decasdes worth of tax returns to you, while the American people who he wants to lead must settle for 1 and 1/2 years only? How many years worth of tax returns did you, John McCaine, release to the public while you were running for President or Senator, and why did you make the decision to do so?
