The Romney campaign is accusing President Obama of cutting Medicare by $700 billion in order to pay for "Obamacare," and has made that charge the centerpiece of a new ad. The basic claim: Obama stole the money seniors put into Medicare in order to give health care to other Americans.
"The money you paid for your guaranteed health care," a narrator says in the ad, "is going to a massive new government program that's not for you."
The ad claims that the "Romney-Ryan plan protects Medicare benefits for today's seniors and strengthens the plan for the next generation."

(1,925 posts)Does the 716 Billion savings.. comes from capping the profits of the insurance companies?
Removing a 'surcharge' that the insurance co's were allowed to charge?
I like the phrase "surcharge' the insurance co's were allowed to charge under Bush...
Romney is going to lie about this until November..

(1,374 posts)It outlines exactly how the ACA makes savings from Medicare.
The Affordable Care Act slows the growth in future Medicare spending by reducing overpayments to private Medicare Advantage plans, by restructuring up-dates in payments to many providers, and by tying payments to improved quality of care. Health care reform does not reduce Medicare benefits.

(1,925 posts)She is very much into 'caps' on % profit allowed..
and it seemed to me having listened to that clip (but forgetting where I saw it that it was essentially a surcharge.
How's about it is all about stopping the 'Bush Era Surcharge of 15% on Profits..(To induce health care providers to enter the Medicare market..)
Thanks so much It is really annoying me to listen to the lie over and over again..

(1,925 posts)I must say that the Obama team helping to create the instant response ads.. has been great..
I appreciate the help with the links... This is such an important election.

(4,787 posts)the 15% surcharge went to insurance companies/for-profit managed care companies, not to health care providers. The doctors, hospitals etc. are the providers: they did not get this money.
