I think Democratic candidates could be campaigning more

aggressively especially Senate Candidates. They have been campaigning on limited issues when they have a whole damn truck load full of them. I don't mean anti-Trump
I mean
Health Care....not enough said about preexisting conditions and how Republicans are tampering with the ACA to force rate increases.
The deficit
The tax break for the rich
Jobs ..but what about the job quality
IMMIGRATION,
Ethics. Yes, what about the Republican White House Cabinet
The Senate leadership with McConnell and his questionable tactics...we need a Democratic Majority leader
The Recent tragedies that was just brushed aside by Trump and the Repukes
What about the 14th amendment.
and the list goes on and on
We all know what the Republicans made of the huge deficits in 2010 ( which was GW Bush's mess)
and Democrats allowed them to walk all over them with this issue.

I was Wrong...... Tom Perez is doing ok..he cannot be everywhere at the same time. I heard his interview in Florida and he has the correct plan in place and its working (in my opinion)

I would have an ad the Project Veritas infiltration and mention that Trump used his charity in the past to give funds to Veritas. I also would start running the Roger Stone information.

There is so much I am not seeing.

directly, like health care, which has been identified as voters' most important issue. The Dem candidates in my area are pounding the GOP's lies about the ACA and pre-existing conditions. Nobody but politics geeks give a rat's ass about Roger Stone; sending Stone to prison won't pay for their medical needs or get them a good job.

If you were involved with any campaign, you'd see that our candidates are campaigning (aggressively) on a wide variety of local and national topics.

PS. Perez's job is mostly administrative with a lot of behind the scenes fundraising. He's not a circus ringmaster to entertain you with delightful tricks.

Politics isn't entertainment.

The people who are managing campaigns know which issues are of the most concern to voters. Access to health care and the economy ion general are the big ones, and that's what I'm seeing local candidate hit hardest. Most of the stuff we fret about on DU is of less interest to the average voter.

I did not say anything about entertainment or going on Cable news show. ..If Democrats did go on the daily shows there would be Republicans on the same panel with pre scripted questions so now ..nothing about entertainment.
I did not suggest Tom Perez was a circus ringmaster but where the hell did you come up with that.

Seems some would rather see our candidates on MSNBC rather than out campaigning in the district which they actually know on the issue that their constituents are interested in. Because, you know, how boring and if someone wants to witness that they have to get their asses off the couch.

And it is shocking that after what Perez and the DNC accomplished in VA and AL by supporting the local candidates and others organizations in their various needs, there are still some here who don’t know what the fuck his job actually is. They think entertaining them on TeeVee is the most important thing that can be done.

I am tired of it. And the sad thing is these people will not be happy on Wednesday no matter what. Even if we take the house they will bitch we did not get the Senate. If we miraculously get both they will bitch that we did not get a big enough majority.

Is now really the time to do the Dems bad stuff?

The Democratic candidates here in FL are leaving no stone unturned in their quests for elected office. They are running smart, grassroots campaigns that speak to local voters. They are talking about healthcare, taxes, jobs and quality, immigration and ethics.

Pull up anything that Andrew Gillum has said over the past few months and you'll see.

This doom and gloom is not only not necessary, it's incorrect. And, it doesn't help.

That likely falls under "Don't bash Democratic figures".

Since he's taken over, Democrats have dominated special elections, swung 50+ seats, completely shattered fundraising numbers and on track to take back the House and minimize damage in the Senate.

He's a manager, a behind-the-scenes guy. You don't see him on TV very much because it's not his job to go on TV. That's for the candidates and their designated spokespeople. The DNC determines the party platform, raises money, and helps coordinate campaigns for candidates and GOTV - and that's not TV stuff. That's backstage stuff. I'm 100% certain Perez isn't sleeping on the job just because he's not on TV telling me what he's doing.

This is not a "persuasion campaign" it is a GOTV campaign

Another thread shows Dems winning independents by 20+ points so more ads is not going to have an impact.

Instead of wasting money on ads they have spent heavily on GOTV.

In Arizona Perez has spent money hiring 55 fullbtimevfield operators and that have had is going to make a difference.

My district is going to flip to blue and Flakes Senate seat is going to flip as well, Perez picked the right strategy (and I am guessing that he consulted Obama and others)

Now they didn't invest in every state or district but places like AZ where the GOTV would impact both House and Senate.

It is a brilliant strategy and it was well executed. If we pick up Senate seats in places like Alabama and Arizona you have to give Perez credit although you might not see his handiwork If you aren't a volunteer in the areas they are targeting.

His opponent for the job appears to be heading to an unfortunate electoral defeat.

19. One point of persuasion is worth more than everything devoted to GOTV
Fri Nov 2, 2018, 02:39 PM

If we don't understand that we are mathematical fools.

We needed a simple easy to understand national message, and we blew it. Our net is not going to be nearly what it should have been, if we had someone competent running a national focus with easy to understand priorities and slogans.

Yesterday I was driving home from a trip and listening to NPR. They had a lengthy interview with a Democratic spokesman. When the NPR female host asked him about Democratic messaging, he started rambling for a minute or two, "I think voters are concerned about (blank). I think voters are concerned about (blank)." He went on and on. The NPR host sensed exactly what I did, than it was so long and disjointed but mostly a blur. No chance it was the most effective summary toward the average voter. But when she asked him to provide a short summary of what Democrats stand for this cycle, he was completely incapable of providing it. He started rambling again. The host correctly pointed out that Trump uses effective short sound bites, and that she was surprised that Democrats haven't figured out the benefit of that type of thing.

I worked GOTV one cycle in Las Vegas. While I admire everything about the people involved, there is zero chance that GOTV is the best use of funds and hours. Elections are won based on preference.

BTW, we don't lead by 20 points among independents. That is an citation of one poll, and not the big picture reality. It will be closer to half that number.

and have worked on dozens of campaigns.

In 40 years of experience I have never read or heard anything as absurd as

"One point of persuasion is worth more than everything devoted to GOTV"

There is literally no scholarship, pundit, or employed campaign manager on either side that would agree with that statement.

There has been some scholarship that has questioned the value of GOTV and the question on whether in some cases whether or not too much resource has been invested for the return but the peer view review of these studies have found them wanting.

There are elections that are "persuasion" elections like 2008 where President Obama needed to persuade the American people that it was time to make a major expansion in the role of the US Government in health care.

This is NOT one of those elections and again no political professional, pundit, academic, or professional political operative has claimed that it is. Both sides are only working at getting people already persuaded out. Trump by ads and his hate filled rallies and the Democrats by individually contacting each identified supporter. The more divided the populace the less persuasion there is and it turns into a race to get already committed supporters to vote early, do mail in ballots and vote on election day.

The question of the break on Independents is not a generic or national question but a state by state question as the role of independents varies significantly by state.

In Arizona Republicans are the largest party with about 37%, independents are about 32% and Democrats are 31%. In states like AZ with large independent populations where we are contesting Senate seats, the independents have been breaking by about 20% consistently for weeks.

This poll from last week shows it at 19%

http://maristpoll.marist.edu/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/NBC-News_Marist-Poll_AZ-NOS-and-Tables_Adults-and-Registered-Voters-and-Likely-Voters_1810291243.pdf#page=4

The most surprising and uninformed comment you made was that you worked in Las Vegas and that you didn't see early voting having an impact.

Las Vegas, because of the culinary union runs the most effective GOTV operation in the country. Every poll had Reid losing his Senate seat last time and he won it solely on the basis of GOTV. In fact because of Jon Ralston (who was the only one to correctly predict Reids' victory) we now can follow GOTV hour by hour.

We know for example that the GOTV effort delivered 17,000 votes in Las Vegas yesterday between 3 and 7 pm.

You can keep track of that here

https://thenevadaindependent.com/article/the-early-voting-blog

The Culinary Union in Las Vegas starts with assisting hundreds of permanent residents their citizenship. They have registered over 10,000 new voters for this election alone and personally contact 40,000 voters individually.

They arrange for work breaks at the hotels and transportation to the polls. They employ 250 people to work 70 hours a week on canvassing.

https://www.culinaryunion226.org/news/press/culinary-union-members-to-drive-turnout-in-nevada-during-midterms

The field team, currently comprised of 250 guest room attendants, bartenders, cocktail and food servers, porters, bellmen, cooks, and kitchen workers, spend up to 10-12 hours a day, 6 days a week (Monday-Saturday) canvassing, and will ramp up to 300 canvassers for days prior to Election Day (11/4-11/6). The field team launches their canvass everyday between 9am-9:30am with last knock at 7:30pm. The Culinary Union’s political field team in seven weeks has knocked on over 190,000 doors and had one-on-one conversations with approximately 40,000 voters across Nevada statewide.

The Culinary Union has also worked with the Las Vegas Strip casino resorts to ensure that thousands of workers will be able to vote early everyday of Early Vote during their lunch break at the nearby early Strip vote center with an organized bus program.

If you were not aware of that great GOTV effort in Las Vegas then it is really astonishing.

We have a word for people who work hard to disparage Democratic Party GOTV efforts, we call them Republicans.

I will leave you the final word because I don't want to waste time with someone who is so exceptionally ill informed on what is actually going on. I will also take steps to ensure that we don't meet again in threads.

Let's put it this way - tariff impacts to farmers would fall flat here. It just would. No one cares.

But Bob Hugin on Trump's Transition team - and the Trump International Golf Club in Bedminster and Hugin's tacit, direct advice that he will support Trump in anything and everything?

That DOES work in NJ.

All of the lies about Menendez and the reality is it is all bullshit made up by Chris Christie.
