Beto O'Rourke mural in East Austin vandalized

The mural of the Democratic congressman from El Paso by local artist Chris Rogers sits in an alleyway near Waller and Second streets. It was defaced with graffiti calling the candidate “El Paso gentrifier” and “imperialist pig.”

Nearby resident Timothy Bresson said he sees murals go up in the area all the time but has not seen many vandalized.

“You have a right to free speech so you’re allowed to voice your opinion,” he said. “But this is vandalism. It’s a criminal act.”
