I am home for lunch, and then back out again. Polls are open today for early voting and many people will be voting because of us standing in front of the library telling them about it. About 80% positive response from people.
Some people are firmly stating they will be voting for all those NOT supporting trump.
We are also campaigning for a new city mayor to be elected, the progressive one.
It is working!!!!

(5,591 posts)early voting, Franklin County.
Line was out the door and doubled down and back down the sidewalk in front of the building! And there is a pretty decent hallway inside to get to the voting booths, too.
Granted, not all of those voters will be surfing the Blue Wave, but Ive never seen lines like this before!

(51,583 posts)that if you DID NOT go out and canvas than all of the people wouldn't have gone out and voted early already. Maybe it is more of a superstition.
Anyway...thank you and all the people who are getting the vote out!

(53,061 posts)There are 1000 particularly peculiar men that mirror my exact thinking and if I go out and knock on doors then these other 1000 guys have to stop watching TV (or making nookie with their SO) and have to knock on doors.
Now normally I would finish thinking that I had gotten 10 more people excited and extrapolate that to mean that actually I had gotten 10,000 involved because of the 1000 political doppelgangers I forced to get out and knock on doors because some how I am the anchor for this particular twilight zone group.
So today I just assumed I am the the anomaly and the other 1000 guys found a bunch.
I think it would be easier for me to survive this world if I started drinking.

(51,583 posts)Last night Bill Maher said that to "escape" the constant horrible news he watches basketball. Barbra Streisand said she eats sweets and plays card games and other "board" games. Meanwhile others are too upset to eat and have actually lost weight while many others have started therapy and anti-anxiety drugs to be able to cope. I know that my dog has lost a coat of her hair from me hugging her all the time.
Next week will be a real test to maintain personal sanity. I have the feeling that so many close races won't be decided until every vote is challenged and that could take a week especially since so many people are voting in this election. The sheer numbers of mail-ins will be a task to count too. Maybe I'll start drinking heavily now and save time.

(7,373 posts)In my area, the people that tend not to vote early are those that work 2-3 jobs or single parents, for example. Apartment dwellers verses home owners would make a difference. In my city, reaching out to apartment dwellers is reaching out to NEW voters, for example.
