(871 posts)To you, and all other volunteers, especially those in "red" states. It is not easy to generate enthusiasm and increase voter turnout in perennial repug states.

(901 posts)...certainly generated enthusiasm and increase voter turnout this time.
Quick aside...many Dems to whom I've spoken this cycle said that they had not seen a Democratic canvasser at their door in many years. I assure them that they are not alone and that their surprise is common and that we're going to fix that little problem.

(905 posts)Have heard a lot of the same while canvassing in Arizona that someone else in this thread said about Texas: Haven't had a Dem knock on their door in years. Praying like crazy we'll pull this one out for the future Senator Sinema.

(823 posts)Don't be surprised by it being close, be surprised that Beto is as close as he is. Repugs are turning out as well to early vote, but I believe younger folks are under represented in the polls because, like my kids, they never answer their phones...so pollers can't get their input.

(14,565 posts)That's why Beto is not cruising. Elections are decided by preference, not turnout, and nothing dictates preference as much as ideology.
I love Beto. Everybody loves Beto. I was in Boston last week and people were raving about Beto. I stood outside the Edward Kennedy senate museum in South Boston and visitors were walking on the grass to have their pictures taken alongside a Beto sign. They had signs from many current Democrats on the lawn outside that museum, although somehow a Diehl sign was allowed also. I nearly removed it.
Still, I hope we aren't putting too much stock in Texas. Much more likely than not, the early returns in that race are a sizable deficit, and it remains that way.

(1,151 posts)process. Democrats have to assume that they must completely overwhelm every race with votes in order to "win by a slim margin." And even then the GOP will claim it was rigged against them, which is entirely laughable.
