Mine is every fucking thing I can find!!! Okay...nerves talking. Mine is a nice...Gentleman's Jack. I need this so bad...and that bottle might be gone before the night is over.
So...how will you calm your nerves? By drinking in moderation or to death?

(4,233 posts)Be safe.
Nothing is safe if we don't win. Yeah my nerves are starting to flare up.

(4,233 posts)As an alcoholic, I just want everyone to be safe, especially when drinking to deal with stress. Cheers.

(86,345 posts)or some nice 12 yo single malt. I don't drink but a couple times a year, might not drink at all Tuesday night, but I might sleep better after hearing some results.

(86,345 posts)You really only need one drink, it's like a nice nightcap sort of whiskey, very smooth with a warm glow, no groggy feeling in the morning unless you have more than one. At a bar it could cost $10+ for one "scotch on the rocks", but well worth it. Glenlivet is just one brand that is readily available around here, there are other, perhaps finer brands but I don't partake enough to care much about them.

(7,725 posts)That sounds like a good one. Maybe it's time for a GL. I like the idea of a warm glow. Thanks Salit. Good morning btw.

(86,345 posts)I only sleep a few hours at a time so I'm up now, will go back to sleep for an hour or so and then...
COFFEE!!! I can only have that in the morning when I'm up for the day.
I have found, after finding that I don't care for alcohol all that much, a better grade of alcohol was in order for those occasions when I do drink it.
It was a bunch of guys, after a day of bow hunting and celebrating the elk they got, at my neighbor's who exposed me to this beverage. We enjoyed it in coffee cups while gazing at the stars. I lived in a remote cabin in the mountains at the time. It was such a nice warm glow on a chilly evening that I never forgot and when I have enjoyed it since, I have the same nice experience so it's my first choice.
I like that I can get it in airplane sized bottles, they're cheap and I take them on camping trips, easier to transport and keeps you from drinking too much. I hardly ever actually drink when I go camping, but one must be prepared.

(7,725 posts)I can picture it. Yes, preparation is important. Elk horns on the wall honor the beast forever. Never could kill anything, but, I sure like to sit in the woods.

(86,345 posts)I was in a cabin in the woods for over ten years, at roughly 7K ft. I had a good neighbor who helped me with chopping wood for our stoves, we were good friends before we were neighbors. Anyway, I would like to get back up to higher elevation, I had to move to lower ground for a job a few years ago and ended up having to go on disability. I don't have the means to live anywhere but I think I can get back to a higher elevation in my region in a year or two.

(7,725 posts)Keep dreaming. it reminds us all of where we need to go, and hopefully are headed. I'll raise a glass of GL and think of you. Ty for the reparte'(sp)

(86,345 posts)I can't complain too much, I still have lots more wildlife than humans in my surroundings like eagles and antelope but I miss the wolves and bears and bobcats.
Have a great day!

(23,296 posts)My dad was a single malt scotch guy...we would put our pennies together as kids to buy him the best bottle we could find for his birthday. He would savor it all year. I even mentioned his preference for scotch in his obituary.
We toasted the elk my husband got last weekend near White Sulphuric Springs with a nice bourbon...its that time of year in Montana, right? Snow in the high country, good meat for the year in the freezer and a toddy in your hand to warm your belly and mood.
Your cabin sounds magical!
2naSalit
(86,345 posts)decent scotch. The only kind I had tasted prior was blended and that stuff is just plain nasty. It's served with a twist of lemon rind, I guess to help you get past the smell or you're supposed to put that in your mouth after you drink the nasty scotch to kill the taste? I learned early on that I can't tolerate cheap booze at all so I have to be selective. When the boys next door introduced me to single malt, that was a good thing.
The cabin was interesting and truly spartan but the surroundings are to die for so I was willing to live with the extra load of chores to be able to enjoy it as long as I could. Now I live in the wind zone and I'm just not close enough to mountains for my comfort. Working on changing that.
As far as hunting, don't do it myself. But if I'm going to enjoy the best organic meat, I have to accept that part of life. I'm just glad I know a lot of hunters who like to share. I trade other organic goods like healing salves or some food item we all like such as pie.

(4,690 posts)Heresy! Ice kills many of the wonderful flavors in scotch. A good scotch should be served at cool room temperature with a little water to bring out all the notes in the symphony that is a top shelf scotch. Signed, the scotch nazi.

(86,345 posts)Though I will say, in my defense, that I have NEVER either been served nor drunk Glelivet on the rocks!

(50,533 posts)My state's Proposition 1 is completely unconstitutional and it's already been shot down once, but you know how Republicans are.
We have three horse racing tracks in South Idaho, plus an Off-Track Betting place in North Idaho. They're either going broke or are out of business because no one wants to take the time to learn to bet on horses. So...they want to install these complex slot machines called "historical horse racing terminals." All well and good, but the Idaho Constitution prohibits any kind of slot machine and Proposition 1 does nothing to amend the constitution. Which means the second verse is same as the first: the voters approve the measure, the state gets sued over the unconstitutionality of the law, the machines get turned back off and the tracks continue to go broke.
Here's the best one: the five people who own Les Bois Park and are the biggest drivers behind Proposition 1 claim they are going to give 100 percent of their "net profits" to charity. Uhh...no one does that.

(2,795 posts)I don't do well with that kind of nail biting stuff. That's why I really don't like football or any spectator sport for that matter. If I'm too invested in one team and I have to sit and watch and be stressed and on the edge of my seat - that's not enjoyable for me.
I might retreat to the downstairs family room, put on a movie and just check in here from time to time till it's over.

If the results don't go the way we're hoping I will stop drinking for a while.
I learned early in life to only drink alcohol when I'm happy and in a good mood.
When issues and problems arise I tend to stay sober.
