Q poll - Gillum, Nelson both up in FL

In addition to the NBC/Marist poll, both have the Democrats leading..

https://poll.qu.edu/florida/release-detail?ReleaseID=2585

"The voters breakdown in the governor's race closely matches the U.S. Senate race:
Gillum leads 54 - 40 percent among women, as men are split 46 - 46 percent;
White voters go to DeSantis 54 - 41 percent as Gillum leads 90 - 3 percent among black voters and 57 - 29 percent among Hispanic voters;
Gillum leads 52 - 39 percent among independent voters and 93 - 4 percent among Democrats, as Republicans back DeSantis 93 - 4 percent".

"Double-digit leads among independent voters and women, plus even bigger leads among black and Hispanic voters give Sen. Nelson his cushion:
Nelson leads 54 - 41 percent among independent voters and 91 - 4 percent among Democrats. Republicans back Scott 94 - 4 percent;
Women back the Democrat 53- 41 percent. Men are divided with 48 percent for Nelson and 47 percent for Scott;
White voters back Scott 55 - 41 percent. Nelson leads 87 - 6 percent among black voters and 59 - 31 percent among Hispanic voters."

1. How can 4% of dems back Scott?

That little % is always there and always blows me away. Are they registered dems but don’t really know what that means? Are they fake repliers to the poll? WTF?

When I registered to vote in 1972 Florida did not have Republican primaries. If you wanted to vote in the primaries - where many local races were decided - you had to be registered as a Democrat.

My mother was registered as a Democrat up until she died in September at 97 often voted for and contributed to Republican candidates. She didn't think there was any other way to register since even in the very red Polk County, Florida, most local races were between nominal Democrats in the primaries.

It sounds crazy, but consider my mom who hasn’t voted for a Republican for president since Nixon.

And yet she was registered as a Republican all through the Reagan Bush years and didn’t switch to being a Democrat until 2004, despite supporting numerous Democrats and strongly opposing numerous Republicans up to that point.

Sometimes you simply remain registered as a matter of inertia.

Especially along the Florida panhandle, there are older small town rural voters that likely have been voting Republican for years (i.e., George W Bush), but haven't bothered to changed their party affiliation from the (D) they registered as back in the 1950s or 1960s...

Ofter register as members of the wrong party, just to be able to take part in the primary.

Lots of Democrats in my town are registered Republicans .. Because for many years there was no Democratic candidate running for local election and Republican Primary was the real election.

What a gut punch it will be to the Trumpkins to lose two top statewide offices at the same time.

But, I my psyche is still bruised from 2016 and I know how dirty Florida voting can get. NOTHING will make me happier to see Scott driven into his political grave. Well, maybe after the election, hold an investigation into the corruption during Scott's terms and send him off to jail.
