on the sound system...Sympathy For The Devil was playing. I wonder if any of his cult members noticed that fun fact.

(9,161 posts)I love Acura's. I owned one for 16 years, but every time I see that ad on TV I ask myself, "Why would they think 'Sympathy for the Devil' would make me want to buy their car?"

(17,637 posts)As Donald Trump sealed up the Republican nomination with a victory speech at the Trump Tower Tuesday night, the music as he exited the stage sent a message about his general election campaign: Start Me Up.
The Rolling Stones, who wrote the song, would prefer that he stop.

(51,582 posts)You have to be very specific with this group of immoral crooks. Telling tRump not to play one specific song means that he can play the rest of them apparently.

(62,444 posts)They contracted licensing out through ASCAP, and they don't have any say in who pays the $50 event licensing fee to ASCAP to use anything in the catalog.

(12,232 posts)Not surprising, he likely keyed in on man of wealth and taste and didnt care about overall intent of song.
Similar to his use of OJays For the Love of Money. Keyed in on repetition of money and not on fact that song was based on love of money being the root of all evil.

(7,611 posts)I would guess that some of them may not even know the title of the song as it's not mentioned in the lyrics.

(22,976 posts)Not exactly a Republican anthem. It implicates the 1% in the worlds ills. It further implicates everybody for letting horrible shit happen by indifference and passivity.

Please allow me to introduce myself: I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long, long year; stole many man's soul and faith
I was 'round when Jesus Christ had his moment of doubt and pain
Made damn sure that Pilate washed his hands and sealed his fate
Pleased to meet you -- hope you guess my name
But what's puzzling you is the nature of my game
Stuck around St. Petersburg when I saw it was a time for a change
Killed the czar and his ministers; Anastasia screamed in vain
I rode a tank, held a general's rank, when the blitzkrieg raged and the bodies stank
Pleased to meet you -- hope you guess my name, oh yeah
Ah, what's puzzling you is the nature of my game, oh yeah
I watched with glee while your kings and queens
Fought for ten decades for the gods they made
I shouted out "Who killed the Kennedys?"
When after all, it was you and me
Let me please introduce myself: I'm a man of wealth and taste
And I laid traps for troubadours who get killed before they reach Bombay
Pleased to meet you -- hope you guess my name, oh yeah
But what's puzzling you is the nature of my game, oh yeah
Get down, baby
Pleased to meet you -- hope you guessed my name, oh yeah
But what's confusing you is just the nature of my game
Just as every cop is a criminal
And all the sinners saints
As heads is tails, just call me Lucifer
'Cause I'm in need of some restraint
So if you meet me, have some courtesy
Have some sympathy and some taste
Use all your well-learned politesse
Or I'll lay your soul to waste
Mmm, yeah
Pleased to meet you -- hope you guessed my name, mmm, yeah
But what's puzzling you is the nature of my game
Mmm, mean it, get down
Tell me baby, what's my name?
Tell me honey, can 'ya guess my name?
Tell me baby, what's my name?
I tell you one time, you're to blame
What's my name?
Tell me baby, what's my name?
Tell me sweetie, what's my name?

(3,479 posts)Remember "Born in the USA"? The song is a giant FU to warhawks like Reagan. He played it at his rallies anyway.
I'm waiting for Gump to play Denis Leary's "Asshole" because it had a catchy rhythm. It's just a matter of time.
