Ihave been able to turn my partner of 23 years from a non-voter into a registered Democrat.

He voted for the first time ever on Sunday! It has been a struggle, but we talked politics almost daily, mostly as I watched MSNBC, and he asked questions. He went from political neophyte to informed voter.

My husband was non-political when we met. I was horrified at the time (1982) and got him registered. Now he votes with me EVERY election.

I was a republican 31 years ago when I met my wife. Never even asked he political leanings. We were young and it just did not matter.

Turns out she was a democrat only because her parents were.

We voted straight ticket Democratic last week.

What kind of f'ing idiot doesn't vote? You should have kicked this moron's ass 23 years ago. As a Canadian patriot I have voted in every election since 1970. I haven't always got it right but I've at least exercised my franchise as a citizen.

"but I've at least exercised my franchise as a citizen..."

You've done so much more than that. You've called someone you have zero relevant knowledge of an 'idiot' and encouraged domestic abuse (which of course, the irony will be lost on you...).

So here we are... with the little I have to infer from, I'd bet a paycheck you're much worse company than those you indict out of a position of empty ignorance. But that's merely an inference on my part, rather than a prophecy on yours.

Bless your little heart.

That's a line from All the King's Men movie with Sean Penn.

If you don't vote...you don't matter!

Nothing could be truer. What can be said about a person who regards his own needs and himself so little that he doesn't even bother to voice an opinion? The only chance of having your needs addressed, is to vote. You may not get it. But it's the only chance you have.

Persuading someone else to change their minds on just about anything is probably one of our most daunting challenges in this life.

I had a girlfriend years ago, a die-hard Republican whom I tried to convince otherwise - but alas to no avail.

I understand she's a full-blown Ayn Randie now, and of course a Chumpkin.

Qué será.

I got my 66 year old house mate to vote for the first time in her life today too in NC.

I had convinced her to register to vote years ago, but she was too scared to go into a voting booth alone, as she was scared she would embarrass herself by not knowing how to operate voting machine, or not know what to do about remembering all the candidates names and races etc... , so this year I got her an absentee ballot and helped her look up anything she had questions about online, including candidates, ballot initiatives etc...

She called me this morning after dropping off her ballot at the board of elections, in person, and you could hear the pride in her voice

I used to cut out her columns from the paper and leave them on his placemat to read. he loved her writing, began to understand the issues, and voted solid D for life.
