(8,656 posts)HIt THEM.
Areas not normally this busy on midterms are showing large early turnouts, Maybe people really tired of this shit and the GOP vastly underestimated their stupidity in letting Trump run amok.

(85,986 posts)...that has to be what we're seeing here.
This is an anti-Trump surge, themed "whatever happened to the majority who voted for Hillary?'

(12,051 posts)at that early hour I was the 268th person to vote. Usually by that time, maybe 40 people have voted in past elections. The guy who manned the exit door said there had been a line of 30 people waiting to vote at 6 AM when the polling place opened.
So, despite the heavy rain, voters are really coming out. I will do a happy dance if Brat loses. I hope most of the extra voters are Dems, and I think they are. Spanberger had gobs of young canvassers who contacted us several times during the race; her campaign made sure that lawn signs were available (I've seen plenty in our neighborhood and I have one myself); and her campaign made sure we Dems knew that the Dem candidate for Commonwealth Attorney did NOT have a (D) next to his name! Now, the Pub candidate didn't have an (R) either, but anyone going in there to vote straight (D) would pause right there if they didn't know the Dem's name. It's being passed off as a slight ballot error, but everybody thinks that's bullshit. So Spanberger's team at the polling place was telling every Dem who stopped at their well-equipped booth that our candidate did not have a D, and that his name was Scott Miles. A very impressive campaign!

(13,783 posts)We voted early, so I don't know what the polling places look like, but it's hard to generate a sense of high anticipation when Elizabeth Warren is your shoe in senator. And a lot of us progressives are a little ambivalent about replacing pretty decent repub Baker with someone who's not clearly better.

(315 posts)While long lines are a good sign that people are getting out and voting, it is an absolute shame that in this country we have lines to vote. We have all the resources necessary to make voting efficient and non-intrusive on people's lives. Early voting is a start but even if everyone in the country voted we have the ability to make voting a simple task.
That said I will enjoy watching our blue wave wash away the stank that has been on our country for two years.

(85,986 posts)...folks waiting for the polls to open. It's a good sign.
As you say, though, it is absolutely a disgrace to democracy to have some of these long lines of folks waiting for a handful of faulty machines and shortages of ballots oftentimes at the only polling place for miles.
We'll be hearing a lot of stories like this throughout the day.
Yes it is good to see people waiting before the polls even open!
