A Split Decision Is No Win for Republicans

November 6, 2018 at 6:30 am EST By Taegan Goddard

Aaron Blake: “We don’t know what’s going to happen in the election, but we’ve got a pretty good idea how it’s likely to be spun. With Republicans probably losing the House, they (and President Trump, in particular) have focused on the Senate. And if they hold it or even gain some seats, you can guarantee they’ll cite it as a win, and possibly even a split decision overall.”

“This will be false.”

”Yes, Republicans would technically be improving their lot in the Senate, while Democrats would be surging in the House… But it would also owe almost completely to some highly unusual circumstances — for which there is very little historical precedent — and it wouldn’t exactly indicate an evenly split electorate.”

however, Trump and the media will sell it as a win for Republicans and Trump.

In reality, with Democrats up against what has been called the worst map in Senate history and an economy that has been artificially stimulated by huge borrowings, Democrats should be facing the loss of 6-8-10 seats. So, even if Democrats hold even or lose a seat, it should be seen as a great sign by Democrats.

(don't get me wrong, i want Democrats to win the senate so Trumpism gets totally rebuked, but I'm just talking about the numbers)

Repubs will be defending far more seats than this time.

That's why they're desperate. They know it's their last chance.
