The top two vote recipients in the MS special election will face a runoff on Nov. 27
There are plausible outcomes where we hold 50 seats and they hold 49, meaning we have three more weeks of this, distilled into one state election.

(56,582 posts)I think just like in AL the GOP hasn't really realized the recent demographic changes to the South or come to terms with the fact that they have to contest these seats now.

(2,176 posts)Sec of States office says they will not be releasing mail in vote totals until Thursday at 5 p.m. I know for a fact that they have been counting them as they come in, as when I checked my ballot, it states the signature was verified and it was counted. I have no idea why they have to wait until Thursday.

(103,856 posts)January 3, 2019: The 116th Congress could convene as early as Noon (ET). The actual date and time will be set by the previous Congress.
Until then, there will be a lame duck session, with all the current senators/congress people...( a very dangerous time)

(56,582 posts)And to take a plausible possibility: if Heitkamp, Bredesen, and O'Rourke lose but Sinema and Rosen win (and we hold all other incumbencies), then control of the Senate gets decided by the Nov 27 runoff in Mississippi.

(25,487 posts)We can take the Senate.... but we'll need to get to 51 without Mississippi to do it.
