Standing in line waiting with my ID's. Two elderly Asian women are in front of me. The vote-person who helps voters get in the right line to speed things along, comes up to the two women and asks, "Do you speak Chinese?"
Not Spanish; Chinese.
They nod yes, and the assistant directs them to the registration clerk - who spoke Chinese! And I'm not in New York or San Francisco where there are larger Chinese populations - I'm in the DC suburbs of Fairfax County Virginia!
And I saw that and had to smile; "Ain't America great!!" (Those on the Reich, of course, I'm sure would be screaming, "Speak English!" Or more likely, "Speak American!" )
PS: Voting took all of 5-minutes. Took me longer to park my car than to vote. The clerk who helped those women told me there were A LOT of voters this election day. Even in the heavy rain.

(15,696 posts)My ballot was 8 pages long and I only had a month or so after it came in the mail with a gigantic voting guide book to research the candidates and issues!!! Then, I spent half an hour filling it out and sealing it in the envelope last night. And then, this morning I had to walk to the end of the block and around the corner to my polling place. And I had to wait 10 seconds or so for the poll worker to make sure I had signed my ballot envelope before dropping it into the box.
The "horror" of voting in San Francisco!
Happy Election Day, everyone!

(17,981 posts)At the BOE. When he went to put his paper ballot he noticed two slots soasked the lady in charge who became pretty arrogant about what he was talking about. The top slot was for the ballot, the bottom a recycling bin.
She made an older woman remove it.

(32,073 posts)I had some asshole 60-something white guy behind me. He started chatting with me, and assumed that because I'm white that I am republican. I told him I never have voted republican, and never will. He made some comment about liking to keep all of his money. I pointed out that his money is going to keep immigrants in tent cities at $750 a day per person. His reply was, "Well, we need to keep THOSE people out of this country anyway, so I'm fine with it." I just looked at him in disgust, shook my head, and turned around. He tried to continue chatting up with other people in line, but none of them would have any part of it. That was nice, but he is the norm around here. I really hate this fucking place. At least I got to cancel out that bigoted sack of crap's vote.
