(Remember each state has different rules/regulations.)
It is heartbreaking to see Republicans' blatant attempts to sabotage the election.
So my advice would be (and I know this is repetitious)....
NEXT TIME: APPLY FOR A MAIL-IN BALLOT!
1) Then, get into comfortable clothes.
2) Gather ballot and other voting material.
3) Pour a glass of wine, or assemble a "food trough".
4) VOTE and..... mail-in ballot.
How easy is that? It's painlessly simple, and you have done your civic duty without standing in line.
........ NEXT TIME.
Your advice?

(1,483 posts)Voter suppression is no problem for me, personally here in SW Washington, but I know that I am more fortunate than virtuous in that regard.
(I will remember next time to not only support candidates, but also to donate to the ACLU.)

(38,958 posts)Yes, Gerrymandering and suppression are very very real, but it's up to the voter to be sure they are registered and make the efforts to get to the polling place. We fought a crowd compounded by a water main break, school drop offs and still managed to cast our ballots. Democracy is not a spectator sport and we all have a responsibility to our community, the next generation and ourselves to participate.

(14,565 posts)First time I've done it, due to a mid-October trip and uncertainty when I'd return.
I love the aspect of filling out the ballot at home but it seemed like any potential problem was 10x what it would be in person, along with waiting for verification that my ballot was received. With a mail ballot I felt like any pen stroke outside the bubble could be a disqualifier.
Keep in mind this is in Miami, where early voting is convenient and the only other state I've voted in was Nevada, where early voting convenience is the best in the nation.
Next time I think I'll go back to early voting on site

(842 posts)It was interesting to see the process as it was happening. Next election, with more information, our confidence will grow.
Early voting is an excellent choice, too. (Miami is a tough one!)

(14,565 posts)Here they use local libraries and stuff like that. Not bad in terms of availability. The only problem is the small parking lot and being bombarded by right wingers as soon as you park the car. They are allowed to be in certain areas and the parking lot is one of them. They march toward you wearing all their pro-red gear and hats and try to hand you pamphlets and stickers and voter guides, etc supporting the Republican candidates.
It is truly an annoyance. I have had them literally curse at me and throw the pamphlets at me if I refuse or say something pro-Democratic. Those Republican operatives follow you smack to the line they aren't allowed to cross, before stopping in their tracks to go back and await the next car to arrive, and do the same thing.
I'm not surprised at any of this because as I've reported many times the GOP is incredibly relentless and well organized in this state.
Contrast to Nevada and specifically Clark County, where there are maybe 90 early polling sites and they use wide open areas in the middle of major shopping malls. It is incredibly easy to early vote. Never long lines unless you wait until the final day or so. No hounding in the parking lot. Just calmly walk in and it might take 10-15 minutes.
That's why I've never surprised that Nevada Democrats pile on the early voting numbers. It should be our model nationwide, at least in the states that have early voting.
BTW, I was in New England for two weeks. Those states generally don't have early voting, or if so in limited emphasis. What is up with that? Massachusetts seemed to view it as a new oddity.
