(1,835 posts)It's the national house exit poll from CNN. Dems seem to have a 11-17 point national house lead based on my guess.

(1,835 posts)It's lower than Bush in 2006 and Obama in 2010 who were both decimated by the midterms. Not sure why you think an approval rating needs to be under 40 for a Dem majority? What historical and scientific data do you use to support that claim? Traditionally, a vulnerable incumbent matches the president's approval rating at best in house races where the national environment is catastrophic for the ruling party, like this.

(6,995 posts)This IS a referendum on trump. I think we need a 20 point approval vs disapproval spread in order to get a cushion in the house.

(43,174 posts)Now, the voting approval rate is probably 4-7% higher than his general approval rate, meaning that there's 4-7% of people who dislike Trump who didn't bother to vote. That doesn't close the gap, though.

(13,225 posts)About 4 in 10 voters turning out to vote across the country choose health care as the most important problem facing the country, and more, 7 in 10, say the nation's health care system needs major changes. About 2 in 10 each choose the economy and immigration as their top issue, and 1 in 10 say it's gun policy.
With a historically diverse slate of candidates on ballots nationwide, about half of voters say it's very important to them that more women are elected to public office and that more racial and ethnic minorities are elected.
A sizeable 1 in 6 voters say this election is the first time they're casting a ballot in a midterm contest.
