God, I think the afternoon tea leaf reading is the worst part of election day.

So much rampant speculation about turnouts and turnout expectations and demographics and target areas and blah blah blah blah blah.

Just give me an answer.

I was just lamenting to someone about election days-past when I was a kid, how it would be Mom's day off (she always had Tuesdays off) and we'd order out, and watch the election results. It was a big thing for me (I can remember back to 1972) so this is like my Super Bowl. Except with real-world consequences...

In the game, the Ravens took a big lead at halftime over the 49ers. However, after the half (and a delay caused by a blackout of the stadium lights), the 49ers came back strong with a vengeance. In the 4th quarter at the 2 minute warning and the Ravens barely holding on at 34-29, the 49ers took it to a 1st and goal.

The Ravens had to defend their lead at their endzone for four straight passes. Miraculously, they managed to hold the 49ers off, but speaking as a Ravens fan, it was about the longest 5 minutes of my life. It was almost literally painful. Not to mention having to sit through the commercial break. But they held them off, and won the game.

That was just sports, all fun and games. This is real life, and I'm beginning to have that same nervous/anticipatory dread that I felt over that game. You feel so close to victory, but you're not there yet, and it's just maddening.

Fortunately I have plenty of work to keep me busy. Wait till the polls start closing and it’s cocktail, MSNBC, NYT election results and 538 all on rotation
