More Than 4 Million Left Food Stamps Under President Obama

I saw Ted Cruz's victory speech in which he stated that 4 million people had been removed from food stamps during Donald Trump's time in office. I wondered if that statement was true, so I looked up the information. It turns out that statement is true, but at least a bit misleading. More than 4 million people had left the food stamps roles by the time President Obama left office. Yes, a large amount of people joined the food stamp rolls during President Obama's tenure, but what Republicans like to gloss over is the fact that the increase was largely due to the recession of 2008. During President Obama's second term there was a steady decline in the number of people on food stamps. By the time President Obama left office the number of people on food stamps had decreased by 4.6 million. Like many things during the Trump tenure, what is happening with food stamps is a continuation of what started under President Obama. It is sad that Republicans will not give President Obama credit for the things he did during his time in office.
