Last night we put an end to the unchecked power of a fascist despot who is in the employ of a second despot whose goal is to end the power of the United States to shape world policy.
We put checks in place named Mueller, Nancy, Maxine, Adam, and many many others. Those are big checks.
We safeguarded ACA, Medicare, Social Security, LGBT rights.
We GOT the tax returns. We GOT him!
We now have the power to safeguard our voting systems.
We took a lot of state seats, so we can reverse the gerrymandering in 2020 so we wont have to beat them by double digits just to beat them anymore.
And not the least of it: my uterus is no longer a legislative playground.
Beto and Gillum were heartbreaks. But we will just have to make sure they win next time.
For today, dance in the streets, and dont let the assholes control the message!

(7,888 posts)As President Obama said, we pick ourselves up, dust our concerns away and get back to work. I agree, taking back the House of Representatives is a big f...ing deal, along with all the other wins you listed.

We got governorship's too! Total state control in NY!
Dems need to hit the ground running to defeat Trump once and for all in 2020!!

(63,795 posts)Democrats are there to clean up after these assholes. McConnell can screw himself too.
I would come back so hard and lash their asses, now what about those troops on the border are they going to be dismissed?? what about the baby detention centers ??? Is that going to be dealt with?? or are those who are responsible going off softly into the night and going to resign to avoid repercussions???

Now, it's really Mueller time, and I'm hoping it makes Watergate look like a minor skirmish.

Between Mueller, the new US House, and the new Attorney General in New York Letitia (Tish) James), they will do just that. . .

(68,456 posts)And for those in Ohio...disappointing that Cordray lost but we passed an anti-gerrymander referendum in 16 so...the future is bright. Sherrod Brown won easily. I am so happy that we were able to over perform and win the House...which is still mostly gerrymandered.

(1,547 posts)All the people on my ballot won .. For the first time my town will have a Democtratic Majority. We flipped a Republican District . Menendez coasted to victory.
Yet there are those who despite having volunteered , canvassed had to deal with heartbreak.
Don't dimiss that pain.

(50,911 posts)a lot of new blue in Texas, a black woman almost won Georgia (and I will never believe that a dishonest candidate who ran his own campaign didn't cheat). And then there's Florida...
We ARE making progress.

(2,143 posts)Republican President Eisenhower appointed William Brennan, who was expected to be a conservative voice on the Supreme Court, so I've heard tell. Turns out he was one of the most progressive judges on the court at the time, and quite an influential one as well, so I've heard tell. So I hold firmly onto hope that any judges tRump may appoint can turn liberal as the light dawns on them.

(7,520 posts)The Republicans are now in hot water up to their mouths, so they have much less mobility to move quickly to destroy things.
We knocked one leg out from under TRMP. He no longer gets unchecked quick gratification from holding all three houses.
Now they want bipartisanship. Mhm. All it takes is every House Democrat to dig in their heels to put the brakes on legislation.
McConnell's Senate no longer has free reign where they can assume the House goes along with them.

(30,613 posts)That was not a safe bet beforehand.
Of course, there are clearly some big cleanups needed and some major problems (e.g. why is it legal for an SOS to count his own votes???).
But overall, we won and Russia lost.

(2,419 posts)People all around us, even those who agree with us can be such a fucking DRAG! "The Dems won governorships, but it could have been better." "The Dems took the House but Republicans ran away with the Senate." Jezuussss! Stop with the mourning! We should be CELEBRATING! Of course, it can ALWAYS be better! We could have swept the House and Senate and Trump could have suddenly come to Jesus and repent his nasty, evil ways and reveal all the crooked things he's ever done and bring down his entire administration. But here in the real world, Dems did a mighty fine job of coming together and spreading their message, defining the differences between the two major parties. We now have a much bigger platform to work from and from which to preserve our precious Democracy!

(21,995 posts)Democrats not only didn't win the Senate but we lost a couple of seats.
In order to control Trump, we need to control both Houses.
Granted, the oversight that the Democratic-controlled House can impose will constrain Trump and his administration. Nonetheless, we haven't saved anything yet. Let's see what the Democrats who prevailed last night will do in the coming months.
In spite of my being an optimist, I'm afraid our country is on the wrong path.

(6,930 posts)Obviously, a lot of Americans think he is wonderful. I think the world is not looking for us to save them. The world is laughing at us.
We have saved no one except, hopefully, ourselves. Saying we saved the world is freaking hilarious, egocentric, and just not true. Nice thought though.

I was thrilled with all the women that won and their diversity. I truly feel women are the key to us winning. The new youth voters, dayum, they woke and are motivated. Finally.
We aren't done here, not by a long shot.
