Trump will crow about last night--but really he lost ground over 2016

Trump will claim victory, of course, but really he hasn't gained anything. It's the Dems who gained over 2016. He still has his RED base, yes. But what states won him the presidency? WI, MI & PA--they all went Blue last night in Sen & Gov races. MN almost went for Trump in '16--last night it was solid Blue. IA was very red in 2016--last night it was purple with Dems gaining 2 House seats while GOP narrowly won Governorship. OH went by 10 points for Trump--last night it re-elected a liberal progressive Dem to the Senate and Dems came within 5 points of electing a governor. FL was, well, FL. The point is outside of his base--Dems gained ground over 2016--Trump and the GOP didn't. He was just lucky to have so many states up for the Senate in Red areas.

NY Times shows that Dems won the overall Senate vote by a whooping 16-points and the overall House vote nationally by about 5-points (and will expand once states like CA, OR, WA fully report).

Of course, but compared to Republicans after President Obama's 2nd year, this was a joke. MadDAsHell Nov 2018 #1

The Blue Wave rhetoric was a mistake IMHO, because by failing to back it up with an actual wave, we’ve given Don the Con more ammo than ever. He was going to attempt to spin this as a victory no matter what, but math doesn’t lie: compared to our own losses in midterms in 2010 and 2014, this was hardly a blip. It’s heartbreaking that he practically gets rewarded.
