Governor, majority in Maine State House and majority in Maine State Senate. Hell yeah!
From the Portland Press Herald:
"Democrats take control of the Maine Legislature"
"The party captured clear majorities in both the House and Senate although results are still pending in a few races - and with Democrat Janet Mills in the Blaine House, Maine is poised to return to one-party rule for the first time since 2012."

(176 posts)and then she goes and votes yes on Kavanaugh - did she really not see the way that Maine (and the nation) were trending (let alone being the right and moral thing to do) and vote no on Kavanaugh)?

(2,768 posts)Should be a D pickup in 2020

(56,828 posts)he won by a pretty big margin last election- 68.5% to 31.5%

(2,768 posts)Her approval was in the mid 30's with disapproval approaching 50% back in August. Mostly because she was "considering" voting for that dude.
Seems like the tide is turning up there for Democrats in general and that vote on kavenaugh followed by that ridiculous speech after didn't seem to gain her any new supporters.

(31,261 posts)I doubt that she want to get humiliated. Repughs there will try with a fresh face. One huge roadblock for repugs is the highly effective speaker of the Maine house is considering a run for Collins' seat.

Likely an instant runoff. They have a funny election system.

(6,496 posts)which means we still have a chance to win it. The people that voted for the independent... their second choice votes will be distributed among Poliquin and Golden. Hopefully, the independents were more interested in Golden than Poliquin. Honestly, this is a good sign that this seat is even competitive because 2nd district Maine is mostly rural and conservative.
Portland Press Herald
Congress- 2nd District

(31,261 posts)Hopefully Tiffany Bond was more of a Dem than a rabid rightwinger. If her votes go to Golden, he wins easily.

(6,496 posts)but I just read through her stuff and she sounds more like a Dem and the Repub.

Mr. Hoar's page didn't say much other than that he worked in special education.
When we did ranked choice instant runoff for governor primaries this summer it took about a week to get the results, so I expect it might take as long as a week to get the results for this race too.

(31,261 posts)She was not direct, but it seems that she is strong on a woman's right to chose. She was direct on climate change, she believes it is real. She doesn't seem to believe that anybody should be allowed to own a gun.
The only thing republican about her was that she was a fiscal conservative, but even there, she seems to believe that taxes are needed and can make a difference if spent properly (interestingly, that is how I feel about taxes).
Hard to say what her voters' second choice will be, but reading her platform from the link that you provided makes me hopeful.

Let's get ranked choice voting fully implemented for general election state level races too.

(6,496 posts)but Janet Mills is the current attorney general. I imagine the next one they select will be a Dem now. Matthew Dunlap is the secretary of state and he is also a Dem.
