(7,220 posts)the "press" is fawning all over Trump. Only fake news will get reported at WH press conferences. And those who only watch FOX (hello, pants-shitting white people) will think everything's fine.
OTOH, legit press needs to stop covering this shit-show because it legitimizes this insane behavior.
I think it's all going to come to a head soon anyway because the press is going to dig in and protect their own, which will probably result in more press passes being revoked, and my scenario where only FOX and maybe infowars are allowed to WH press conferences will be reality. Then we will have de-facto state-run news.

(59 posts)The Dems should hold an alternative press conference at the same time. Perhaps even ask the same questions to the Dems that the prez won't answer truthfully.

(8,200 posts)I keep wondering when is he going to totally lose it. When will the meltdown occur.
He has always gotten his way using money and threats to sue to bully people. This is not working and he is totally frustrated because his entire life he has been able to get his way like a spoiled child and now he is throwing a temper tantum. The best defense is to laugh at the poor demented man-child. Just give him a lollypop and ignore the poor fool; pat him on the head and a few consoling words will suffice. On the world stage he is regarded as an easily managed silly immature adolescent.
Just tell him that his pathetic whimpers are grandiose eloquent pronouncements and then have him sign their position statement on the doted line while patting the poor fool on the back as he grasp their hand like s drowning man desperately clinging to a life raft. He is so disillusioned and his ego so easily manipulated that he actually thinks that he has made a profound statement that ranks him with the most notable statesmen in history. The North Koreans and Russians play him just like the disillusioned fool that he is. Our allies shake their heads and wonder what to make of this abortion. It is a pathetic play and a promised tragic ending with Trump proudly basking in the footlights playing the part of the King of Fools.

(33 posts)The Orange Poo Flinger was in rare form this afternoon!
Not sure if he felt emboldened because he thought he was "Winning",
or scared because he lost the House....
But, he treated Acosta like a POS, and the NBC, and PBS folks, (as well as others)
the same.
Every non-American reporter he couldn't understand them....
He cut off every reporter's question with some canned lie, or talking point.
It was a shit-show...
BUT!
Here's what makes me sick, and has made me sick since last night!
It sure seems like a HUGE Majority of America is All In with this behavior, and with Him!
Yeah, the opposition did well, but I really had hoped that he would have gotten truly repudiated!
No such luck... Look at ALL that RED on the US map! It seems that a Whole lot of the USA is in his boat!
THAT depresses me!

(6,709 posts)55 million Americans voted for Democratic Senate candidates; 44 million voted for Repuke candidates. And with gerrymandering we had to clear a 7? 8?% margin in the popular vote to take the House...which we did.
We have a boatload of things to fix, but being in the majority isn't one of them.
Gregory Peccary
(490 posts)California had 2 Dems and no GOP on the Senate ballot that accounted for 6 million of those votes. But your point still stands.

(22,112 posts)KS, North D., South D., Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico (basically that little chunk of the west (w/o Calif., Wash, Oregon)) probably has a total (roughly 10 states) of 20% of the Senate reps, yet have only 5%-10% of population? There has been some discussions here on DU about the lopsided representation that seems to prevail, to which the founders/writers of the constitution and its amendments never intended. Again, people in the repug party analyzed computer printouts of people distribution vs. getting control of Congress representation and went down that path.
Didn't really do it for the people but purely for the representation of party only.

(7,220 posts)the population in those tiny blue areas is bigger than all those big red areas. If you look at a map of how Oregon voted in the last election, for example, you'd think the place was crawling with Republicans. But most of the population is concentrated in the bigger cities, which are predominantly Democratic strongholds. The same is true in CA and NY and many other states with highest population in the US. In small states like the Dakota's there are a majority of Republicans but again, the total population of those states is very small.
So when you see all that red on a US map, think about how many people live in those blue areas compared to red ones.
What's interesting to me is how many Democrats are highly concentrated along the east and west coasts. Maybe something about the ocean makes people more calm and rational?

(9,426 posts)because his spray tan was especially orange today. His white circled eyes looked clown-like. He has gained so much weight, he has to stand back from the podium, and lean forward to reach the mike! For the very first time in his misguided, corrupt life, he is being asked real questions. The gop is to blame for this disaster. They HAVE to pay for all the misery they have put this country through by supporting this orange ass. Too bad the entire press did not turn around and leave him standing there, spouting his bull. Why were they there, since he said nothing of any importance. He just took over the airwaves for no reason at all, apart from getting himself on TV.

(82,849 posts)Failing to call them out has brought us to this pretty pass, and I'm glad that today CNN feels Trump has gone too far. Will they feel that way tomorrow, too? I thought CNN would have been fed up with Trump after he tweeted out that gif from his pro wrestling days when he clotheslined a dude with the CNN logo superimposed over his head.
Did you think Trump would dial it back after you let that go?

Jim Acostas unrelenting politeness and professionalism even when hes attacked by Trump directly just makes Trump look like hes out of control. Trump knows that too. And he IS out of control.

But Trump said that he would react aggressively to any attempt to look into possible corruption in his administration or investigate his personal finances or conduct in office, as Democratic leaders have said they are planning to do. He vowed to respond with warlike posture that would extinguish any hopes for bipartisan progress.
I could fire everybody right now, but I dont want to stop it because politically I dont like stopping it, Trump said. Its a disgrace. It should never have been started, because there is no crime.

(17,911 posts)That's rich. Like the Republicans actually want to do that...ever. And the fact that this Congress is meant solely to block anything and everything this abortion of an administration attempts to shove down our throats. I only wish we'd have taken the Senate so we could block every single, solitary appointment from now until 2021. Bipartisanship? That was never in the equation.

(53,410 posts)and he didnt back down when Trump attacked him. JIm Acosta was professional throughout and after the attack. The next person Trump called on immediately defended Jim Acosta as a complete professional. At that point petulant Trump snarled that he didnt like that journalist either. The journalist answered calmly that he knew that and proceeded to ask him a question.
Meantime some young girl Trump aide was trying to wrestle the mike out of Jim Acostas hand which she was unable to do until he handed it to her. At that point she handed the mic to the other reporter who defended Acosta.
The video is posted in various places. You should watch it because it will be used throughout the next few decades as historical footage of the Trump Era. Hopefully it will be used as proof of his insane meltdowns and proof of why he was impeached or quit, or just went totally insane.

(31,261 posts)Absolutely insane for any leader to act that way. He personally insulted Acosta and when Peter Alexander stood up for Acista, Trump insulted him. Then other reporters came to their defense and Trump called the whole press liars, dangerous people. His language was threatening and was likely to incite violence against the press (more that what has happened).

Why they have not acted this brash back at him yet, as he is to them. Why have they not peppered him with uncomfortable questions more, sooner, I will never know. I hope this has begun a new more aggressive questioning of him. And Sarah Huckster who also insults their intelligence on a daily basis.

(7,142 posts)because CNN, MSNBC, FOX, ABC, NPR are all complicit in electing Donald Trump, making profit was a secondary issue.
There was a deadline for Trump to impose sanctions on Saudi Arabia for the murder of the Saudi journalist. Where is the reporting from CNN and the rest on that? Oh yeah, he was just a green card holder, not a real person just a resident.
What about the other journalists, less well known than Acosta who had their credentials revoked. A news network was banned.
This is kabuki theater, Acosta's boss and Trump will be playing golf at Mar-el-Loco this weekend, if I were a betting man.
