A ‘Wipeout’ for House Republicans in Northeast
November 8, 2018 at 7:16 am EST By Taegan Goddard

New York Times: “In New Jersey, voters slashed the number of Republicans in Congress from five down to two, and possibly only one.”

“In New York, Democrats declared victory in three congressional races in President Trump’s home state, ejecting the last remaining Republican from New York City.”

“And in the six other states in the Northeast, the lone remaining Republican congressman, Representative Bruce Poliquin of Maine, was clinging to his seat on Wednesday, his fate to be decided by the second choices of third-party voters through ranked-choice voting.”

he won in 11 counties and Menendez won in 10. (The 10 counties had a larger voting population.)

All Bob Hugin ran on was how awful NJ Governor Phil Murphy was (taxes!) and what a "disgrace" that "corrupt" Bob Menendez was.

He was on trial for corruption last year. IMO he should have been primaried, but the NJ Dem machine stood by their man. He had a primary opponent who didn't even have a campaign website and she got around 40% of the vote.

(I voted for him).

The GOP majority Senate will also be lost to the Democrats , especially after their refusals to hold trump accountable, and it'll be another disaster for all the gop . By their protecting trump this will only make their removal by voters from their positions next election even more probable than this one was in the House for them, and another overwhelming loss. Add to that all the indictments coming after those involved are exposed and charged, this will completely destroy their chances maybe for a decade or more . The young people will not forget or forgive these people for what they've done, or are trying to do to us all.

In 2020, only two Republican Senators will be defending seats in states Clinton won, and she didn't win them by much -- Colorado by 5% and Maine by 3%. As against that, the Democrats will have to defend a seat in deep-red Alabama, which Trump won by 28%. We can't count on the GOP to nominate another child molester.

Trump's win in North Carolina was by less than 4%. That and a few other states are plausible pickup opportunities. Still, it's not the flip side of 2018, when Democrats were defending ten seats in states Trump won.
