Democrats Won More House Seats Than In 2006

November 8, 2018 at 9:55 am EST By Taegan Goddard

First Read: “It appears that Democrats are on their way to netting more than 35 House seats — a bigger pickup than the some 30 seats the party gained in the 2006 midterms and the most for them since the post-Watergate 1974 midterms.”

The Dems will win close to 40 house seats, seven governorships (assuming the races in Georgia and Florida stay red), 300+ state legislative seats, holding the GOP to 1-3 Senate gains in an election in which Dems were defending 26 seats (the most in history) including 10 in Trump states, flipping suburban seats that have been GOP for decades, putting an unprecedented number of women and minorities in office, and winning the overall popular vote by 10-12 million during a midterm (more than Obama's landslide in 2008 general election).

It was a damn strong night. It could have been better. But it was very good.
